Clams and lighting question/opinion(s)

So I am cycling my new tank. It's a 120g 40g sump, RS135 skimmer, blah blah ... all really nice stuff.

So today I got an awesome deal on a 8x54w T5 setup. Stupidly cheap and in as new condition. So it gets me thinking (of course in this hobby).

Do you guys think that my two Crocea clams could live and grow under that lighting scheme in about 30" of depth? The tank is 24" deep and the light sits on the canopy which is about another 6".

They are currently in my smaller tank under 2x250 MH and doing great.

The only thing I totally hate about MH lighting is giving National Grid an obscene amount of cash every month for the electric bill. I thought that if the clams would do well under the T5's I could save a couple bucks.

I dunno still leaning toward continuing to use the MH setup. Just looking for some banter.

Fire away!! :p

SOme people swear by T5, but I swear by MH. I have no experienec with T5, so I wont say if they work or not, but I know MH will work.

By the way, dont count that 6 inches of canopy. Light traveling through that space will lose a negligible amount of intensity as compared to what it will lose in the water. Yes it will lose some, but even if you had these lights 1/2" above the water, when you get to the bottom, you'd see the numbers would be similar.
