Clams in MI

Since the thread about clams started and it we ended up not having enough people to do it. Who here would like to take a trip to MI to get clams up there. They seem to be priced very affordable. I have a Jeep with 4 empty seats and would be willing to drive up in the next week or 2. As long as everyone who comes would split the gas evenly. I checked on mapquestion to see how long it would take to get there. It looks like about 3 hours which isnt too bad. Here is the web site www.tropicorium.com thank you Kevin for the idea. and I hope you can come. Please let me know who would be interested.

I am interested. I was planning to call them next week to see about an online order and if I can get a photo of the clam before purchasing. They had a few other things I was interested in also.

If you are going to Michigan - I'd recommend Happy as a Clam. Not too far from Trop. happyasaclam.com

I picked up my last clam form him. Its doing great. I never thought of going there. Ok or happy as a clam either work for me.

i think the site is actually happyasaclam.us if i remember correctly

You are right, my mistake :)

I'd be interested in going up possibly for some sps pieces or clams, that place looks amazing.... Let me know what day you guys are going up and i'd gladly split gas! FIELDTRIP :)

Tropicorium is awesome and definately worth the trip. I'd also recommend the Fish Doctor's in Trenton, MI. It is a smaller scale LFS but they give very good advice and the prices are good. It is just down the street from Trop. Just tell the owner (Win) that Jen from NORA sent you.

I would really like to see when happy as a clam is getting more clams in. The last clam I bought from him was amazing. Maybe get to a few places while we are up there.

Here is my clam from Happy as a Clam:

how much???? oh and am up for the field trip also, actually have my wifes blessing to go, so count me in am good for my share of the fuel costs

It is about 5" I was thinking $40 or a nice SPS trade. I could meet in Sandusky around lunchtime. Or, I could meet up when you head to MI.

Wow I never thought this would be such a hit. I am going to give happy as a clam a call in the next few days to see when he will be getting more clams in. Please let me know where you guys/girls would like to go (which place) Please PM me the info and then we can figure out more of the fieldtrip. Also witht he PMs it would give me an idea of who is really wants to do this.

I was thinking of putting together a road trip next month if anyone wants to head to Tropicorium in Michigan. They have some neat clams and they are all $29 each or 2 for $50. They have TONS of corals too. www.tropicorium.com for more info. If you want to go let's try to put something together at the meeting. I have a 7 passenger minivan and get about 20 MPG so we could all put in like $5 to fill the tank and maybe have some good conversation on the way there and back :)

If you guys get together and decide to head over there before I was planning on the trip that's cool but as I said in my original post I won't be able to go for a couple more weeks. I am in the finishing stages of my fishroom/in-wall setup and don't want more items that I have to try to keep alive until it is completed. I will still be making the trip in the 7 passanger van. It has 2 captain's chairs in front, 2 in the middle and a bench in the back so 6 people should be very comfortable. I like the idea of hitting more than one store and sharing gas 6 ways would be nice too.

If there are any Akron people who would like to go you could just park in my driveway here which is about 30-40 mins west of Akron
and maybe we could meet the Clevelanders somewhere like Salty Critter or another convenient location we all know of.

Kevin sorry Im not trying to steal your idea but Im just trying to get up there before I move to Boston, MA. I figured that there are enough people that making 2 trips at different times would be good and since people have different schdules it wouild be good ot have 2 times. jenghes
what kind of clam is that. Im an interested.

Looks like a crocea to me.... put me in line for it i guess lol. I should have checked back sooner.

When are you guys making the trip? LMK

Tropicorium use to be really nice. They had a fire awhile ago and wasn't worth the trip last time I went. Had to of been about 1 year - 6 months ago now though. Hard to get service because so many people are there on the weekend. They use to have the best live rock. Prob worth the trip. Doesn't take too long to get there either.
