Clams not attaching

I have had 2 crocrea clams in my tank for about 2 months and they have never attached. This is actually an OK thing because I have been fighting pinched mantle. But, i wonder why they never attached.

croceas are sometimes known as "boring clams" because they like to grab and pull into cracks and nooks, so a rocky substrate might induce some attachment- the crushed coral in the photo is probably just an irritant to attachment.

so maybe if I placed something under them they would attach. unfortunately they need to be removable at this time

put a small rock or object under the clam on the sand. If the item is small enough (certainly no bigger than the clam), it will be easily moveable for your purposes. Be careful though, these animals are usuallu sedentary, so moving them excessively is unnecessary and stressful.

I just got 3 croceas a week ago. Two of them attached to shells I placed under the sand, the other never attached. I'm not even sure it has an intact byssal gland with which to attach. It seems fine though.
