Clarification please.

This gets me so aggravated. There are so many terms about pairs out there and everyone has their own definition. So far I found that there are:
Mated Pair
Bonded Pair
Breeding Pair
Spawning Pair

Its funny that one site or person will use one term to list as "A pair of fish that lay eggs" where others use another term. Is there a clear definition of the above terms?

I guess you really need to ask and never assume.

To me....

Mated and Bonded pair are the same and mean that the two are a couple but have not started Breeding/Spawning.

Breeding and Spawning pair are the same and mean they are actively breeding/Spawning.

That's my interpretation.

I use the same definitions as FB. However, as you noted, it's best to ask and not assume ;)

3. I see terms like "matched," "bonded," and "mated" referring to clownfish pairs. Do these terms all mean the same thing?
No. A "matched" pair consists of two fish that have merely been selected by the breeder, based on species, size and any characteristics the breeder is hoping to have in the offspring, such as a color morph. In the case of a "bonded" pair, the two fish have accepted each other as suitable mates and have settled into the breeding aquarium.
A "mated" pair has produced at least one clutch of eggs.

This sucks.
