Clarkie black ich? or maturing?

I was looking at my clarkie this morning and find he is looking like he is turning black. I know as they mature they turn black. but i was wondering how do they turn black. do they gradually get darker ( meaning uniformally) or do they turn black in some ares at a time.

You don't know what a favor you've just done me posting that link. I'm restocking my tank (after about a month) and trying to match a BTA clone morph with the fish it would be found with in the wild. That site is a biotope nerd's dream.
