clean up crew help

Looking for a cleaning crew for my new tank that I just set up. It's 180 plus sump and was wanting astrea and blue leg. I have about 200 lbs of rock and 150 lbs of sand. How many of each should I buy. I saw 100 of each from saltwaterfish.com for about 110 with shipping. If that is a good amount for the tank and a good price I'll get them.

I would check your local ponds and streams. I got a bunch of snails and crawdads for my cleanup crew. Every now and then you can find a turtle-they are great for algae.

JJ.
I would check the LFS first and see what kind of deal they can work with you. It is very slow for them this time of year and they need local support. good luck

I would start off with about half of that order and let them do their job...you can always add more later...don't want them to run out of food and starve to death.

The crabs will kill the snails and then start killing each other. I hate hermits...they are assassins.

I like hermits, but they do kill snails...I think hermits in small numbers are OK though.

I think hermits are OK too. I met this guy once living in the middle of the woods all by himself, and he was a nice enough guy. It was a really cold day, and he was wearing shorts, so his legs were blue. He couldn't find much to eat out in the middle of the woods, so he was eating snails, which I thought was kind of gross.

The moral of the story...blue-legged hermits may be kind of cool, but they will eat snails if they get hungry enough.

Oh, and I in no way condone any type of population control on hermits. We aren't facists, you know.

Gateway Aquatics normally has a good selection and prices.

I also suggest reeftopia.com. I ordered from them and was very satisfied.

And everyone is correct, those hermits will kill and eat your snails.

You know, I have never seen one of my hermits kill one of my astreas. But then, I do have this one astrea shell that crawls around with blue legs sticking out of it.
