Hello,

The only inhabitants in the tank are a feather duster, xenia, GSP, frogspawn, 2 cleaner shrimp and an orchid dottyback.

One shrimp was in 4 pieces. I inspected the remains and it's too meaty to be a molt. what could have done this?

I watch the tank nightly and have pulled 3 crabs of differing species so far. the remaining ones seem really small...no more than a cm across. I'm baffled!

Thanks,
Brett

There is a possibility, albeit a small one, that the culprit is teh orchid dottyback. They do prefer meaty foods such as mysis or krill and can vigorously defend their hiding spot in the tank. It could be that the shrimp was attacked by the fish. Not necessarily probable but it is a possibility.

I will believe any villainy of a dottyback. ;) They're carnivores---beautiful, but if it fits in their mouth or can be made to, they're apt to take advantage.
