**Clear** Mesh Top

DIY is all about finding snags, jdjeff58 :D

Your probably just going to have to notch out places where the cords are in the way with a Dremel tool.

I have an AGA 120 with the center brace. I ended up making two panels to fit in the recessed sections of the tank brace. I just cut them a little short so the cords can fit. It's only like 1/8" gap across the back. Heck that's less space to jump out than the 1/2" squares. I picture a fish hanging by its gills on this net. I really think I need 1/4" netting...damn it. I guess it's better than no cover at all.

I'll try to remember to take a picture tomorrow. I have a 180 w/ a 1' glass center brace so I also made two pieces. However, I have a strainer and a return PVC line in the way on both sides. Maybe they have the pieces somewhere (I couldn't find them), but I actually did the frame corners in the WRONG direction for a little indent. You can trim the plastic corners to fit, but obviously the holding channel no longer exits. If you're going for a short distance, it's hard to tell and still looks clean.

Hard to explain, but again, I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow.

I need to get more mesh...

So has anyone found a good place that sells the mesh in smaller pieces? I want to make one for my new 210 which is 5' x 3'. I looked at the casting nets and that would still cost me 30.00+ . I just looked on EBAY though.

Is it me or is jimsflies keeping the place he got the mesh from top secret? Why post about your diy project if your not going to let people know where you got all your materials? Are you purposely not saying anything so that you can sell the mesh you have? For all we know you bought this mesh cheap and are jacking up the price to make money. Its not like we have a link posted,so that we can see what it actually cost.

You remind me of the people that take other peoples diy ideas and start selling them on ebay.Of couse you probaly wont have a comment for this post, since you have ignored everybody else's request for the website to where you purchased the netting.

The stuff I got is a 14' x 14' of bird netting from Home Depot...it was $5.89. I'm not sure if you're ok with 1/2" squares...that's the smallest they have. I understand Lowe's carries the stuff too. It's black and it's hair thin. I just wish they had it in 1/4".

No...no noticeable shadows from the screen...it IS really thin stuff and not much thicker than a hair. The center brace in my tank already casts a shadow...at least with my LED's. I effectively made my center brace and the tank edges a little thicker by putting the frames where I did. But I'm not too concerned about it....for now anyway.

Thanks for the reply.Gonna get to HD this week and pick some up.

I found mine in Lawn and Garden. I know HD's can differ from store to store. So I hope they have it for you. I was actually floored when my HD had it.....they usually don't have anything I'm looking for...and I end up going to Lowe's.

building onethis weekend pics to come. This stuff is all at HD near me. Perfect one day DIY project to replace my eggcrate.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Ryan

Thanks to Jim for posting this thread. I made one of these today to put on top of my tank:

NettingCover.jpg

Unfortunately, I installed this cover after losing a C. lineatus from jumping out of the tank the day before.

what "section" did you find it in?

my petsmart carries the correct hole sized netting, but its black. its in the pond section. comes 14'x14' and cost 21$. 1/4inch squares (hole size).
