**Clear** Mesh Top

How many people have to ask where to get the mesh material before someone actually replies with a link of where to get it?

I believe Jim purchased this in a very large roll 200+ ft. roll - I can't remember where.

You may find something similar from Aquatic Eco.

i have noticed a deer netting at home depot. 15$ for like 100 ft role.

the holes appear to be about a half inch. the material is black but its very thin. i believe that it could be used without compromising our lighting, at least till something better is found. i found this netting in the outside section where all the plants are sold, over in the area that has the fertilizers.

I have yet to make my "screen". The material is clear, not white nor black. Light just passes right through. My guess is black netting would create some shading.

I've always wanted to get some firefish, but didn't want them to be found on the floor one day. This solution seems like it would be perfect! I'd probably opt for the 1/4" though.

Does anyone have any extra clear mesh (either 1/2" or 1/4")? I need a piece about 18" x 36". Please PM me...

Dave

I am unsure if where we were going to be getting the mesh locally will be able to come through or not (weeks later and we are still looking :()... so it looks like we are back "on the market" looking for some mesh. The pieces we have are too small for our tank :(. Any "new" hot links or tips ?

i used a piece of 1/2 inch plexiglass but for big tanks it can get expensive i used it on a 10 gallon. looks pretty good though great job!

I used the black mesh from Lowes, always available in their gardning department, and there is no problem with shade etc. The mesh is so thin that it doesn't affect the lighting at all. I know there are some people on the board selling their scraps of clear mesh, don't waste your money. For under $10 you can get all the black mesh you would ever need from Lowes.

Also, I used the aluminum screen frames, and after more than a year there is no sign of rust etc.

A castnet is made from monofiliment and would have worked as well for the screening. You could buy the net and cut out the section you need. I know it's to late now as you've already bought the other stuff but for those that might be doing this in the future. You can buy a cheap castnet at Waldoworld.

How do you work around the electrical cords that go into the tank...i.e power head cords? I just got all the stuff for this project and now I've run into yet another DIY snag. I'd like to be able to EASILY remove the screen.

DIY is all about finding snags, jdjeff58 :D

Your probably just going to have to notch out places where the cords are in the way with a Dremel tool.

One option would be to cut a piece of plexiglass to go across the back and make openings (with tight tolerances to avoid openings that fish can jump through). Then use a little silicone to keep it in place on the rim stock....you'd be able to remove it, but not something you'd take off every day. Then make the frame a little narrower and sit it on that along the back. Hopefully, your able to follow my description...
