Clicking in pulse mode

Hi Roger,

I've got two 6100's with the multicontroller. I've been experimenting with pulse mode over the last few days and everytime the pulse starts there is a click sound coming from one of the pumps

I've dismantled and cleaned everything but it is still clicking when starting. On closer inspection the bearing bush looks as though it's cracked also. Is that why it's making the noise when pulsing?

The other stream is fine and does not make the noise when pulsing.

Is this normal?

Thanks

Mark

Their are a few possibilities. The bearing bush is two pieces glued so it may be just where the parts are joined and not an actual crack, if it is a crack this could be a cause. I would make sure the pieces are all firmly inserted. It is possible that the speed is too low, actually less than 30% because of additive differences in resistance from the cable, driver and controller, in this case a steady clicking sound is heard on low speed and making sure the driver is at 100% power and the cable is firmly inserted may fix this, you might also just have to turn the low pulse speed up very slightly, this would be the case if a steady clicking is heard at the lowest speed. If the pumps are new, less than a month it may just take some time for the parts to fully wear in, their could also be air in the pump still. Inserting the drive unit under water and giving more time for the parts to wear in would resolve this.

Thanks for the reply,

The whole lot is less than a month old. The bearing bush looks as though it has lots of cracks, a bit like crazy paving.

The pulse mode confuses me even more now. I have channel 1 4a set at 50% and 4b set at 100%. Channel 2 6a is set at 50% and 6b set at 100%.

Are the streams meant to stay on in pulse mode at different speeds? Mine seem to be switching on and off. The "bad" stream only clicks when it switches on.

I think I may be missing something here.....

You may be in tide mode, pulsing occurs in all modes but in tide mode the sockets 8 and 10 are on and then after the interval is up 9 and 11 are on. You might try swapping the bushings. Are these cracks something you can feel? It may be just the appearance from the molding process and not actual cracks. If you cannot feel them I would give it a bit of time, two weeks is the minimum time for most wear in to occur, at 3 months the pumps are optimally worn in.
