Clkwrk's 180gBB SPS/LPS tank setup and progression log

Okay not much going on everything is growing great and colors are jumping everywhere.

Here are some growth and color shots that impress me .

Here is a mille that came from a locals tank that was very well taken care of and had lots of good looking sps. Most looked up to his tank .

Hi, nice tank.
on the 7th pic down after the orange monti that acro looks like it's got redbugs. i could be wrong though. just thought you should take a closer look.

Thanks!

Yes I have red bugs :D There is a thread in the sps forum ( living with red bugs are you ) you can find more info there.

I don't plan on treating anytime soon or at all .

Okay I am one step closer to having all the equipment I want for this tank :D

I have now aquired a wavebox to compliment my 2x6200's and 3x6100's .

Next is a a200 H&S skimmer and 3 6055 nano streams :D

Oh and a shuran jetstream ca rx to replace my dual chamber knop knock off.

Sweet tank man...

I started browsing your thread when I saw the title; as I would really like to do a 180 BB. Before I started reading your thread, I was convinced I would go glass, but now I'm thinking Acrylic.

I have a question for you:
In your 120 you had some thorough closed loop stuff going on in the back wall, and I don't see any of that in your 180. What is your experience with rear wall closed loop, and why did you decide not to do closed loop in your 180?

Thanks

clkwrk,

I've been checking your threads for some time, and am really impressed with your setup. A spectacular example of an SPS tank. I have a question about how a BB works. It is a clean look and with an acrylic tank, no sand is a plus.
My question is this, do you lose much in the way of buffering without a sand or crushed coral bed? Before looking at your latest posts, I had planned on a SSB, and I question what buffer effect a 1 inch sand bed would provide anyway. But again, how do you provide for a stable PH without a buffering substrate? DO you need a CR for that? Also, what do you have between the tank bottom and rock work?

Awesome tank! I see you have some wrasses. Do you have a glass top to stop them from jumping out?

Thank you! Yes I have lots of wrasses and plan to add another 6 or so before its done . However I don't have a top to keep them from jumping . So far over the last 2 years I have only had them go into the overflow.

The rear wall closed loop was great minus the heat from the pump . This time I had the cash for extra tunzes so I went that route . If this tank was going to stay SPS for the term of its life I may have drilled it but I plan on moving into a 300g + for my final sps tank later down the road. @ which time the 180 will become the softie lps tank and then I will plan around that then.

Thank you very much!

IME I lose no buffering ability. I have no problems keeping my ph stable even though I run a dual chamber ca rx which has a tendancey to drag ph down like most reactors. I also feed my skimmers outside air.

Also their is noting between the rock and acrylic even my bb softie tank which is glass has nothing.

Just a preference.

... and how DO you get them out? I've had a Midas blenny in my overflow for months now!

Love your system :)

One thing I have noticed is how clean the inside of your tank is. Not a smidgeon of coraline on the sides or back panes. What kind of cleaning regimen do you have and is there ever coraline buildup on the bottom acrylic?

Thanks
