Clkwrk's 180gBB SPS/LPS tank setup and progression log

Thanks! It really won't be too hard it wasn't even a month ago I went from this to the pic above.

This was in January before I took every thing out to reaquascape.

I plan on setting it up exactly the same but with more room on the outside edges and in between the islands. It will be one long day I tell you . I have to first brak down my 90g and 20g since both of those sit where the 180 is going and I have to tear the 120 down because the 90g is going where it is now:lol: and the 120 will go outside and await a new home. So I will have my hands full .

Heres the 90g that needs to come down and move.

I tell ya the things we do just to get larger tanks and provide for our fish .

Its all the bluespots fault

UMMMM---THat tank looks great too! :D

If I had a tank that looked the way yours did, I wouldnt even consider aquascaping, not even to dream of getting a bigger tank LOL :D

I love reef central!! Just because you see stuff here--normal to everyone elses standards--that just makes you say WOW!! :D

Then glance over at your pride and joy...turn off the monitor to your computer and rush to the lfs.! LOL :D

Great work!! :D

alien9168- I am going to call and see how much more a thicker guage will cost. I would really like to have no brace and an open front with maybe 1ft corner braces up top .

However I am in debate over height now . I would like it to be 40" tall so that there is no need to crouch when viewing it but where I am going to put it would also allow for lots of couch and loveseat viewing unlike the 120.

Decisions decisons

Thanks ! ........ its and addiction . I too wonder if I am crazy . I am breaking that all time rule "if it ain't broke don't fix it "

But I look at it this way my tank will look even better when its opened op a bit more for my corals to grow some more and my bluespot which is in my 90 with my other PBT will get to go into a tank double the size .

The 48" x 28" steel stand for my 120 uses a surprisingly small amount of steel:
DSCN3463.jpg

The top frame is made of 2" angle steel and the bottom support is 1" angle steel. The legs are all 2" tube steel. I'll have to confirm, but I believe all steel is 1/8".

I'm not sure if this helps for reference (I realize your stand will be 2' longer), but I know I expected them to use a lot more steel than this; but the stand is rock solid as it is....

Tyler

Thanks Tyler ! However since my stand is going on a wood floor and not concrete so I have to have a full framed bottom to help distribute the load.

I wish I had concerte then I would mess around with this 180 I would goto 400 or so :D

THats true, I myself would find it very difficult, but I guess I too, If I had the time and money would become the adict you are! :D

It is an addiction that everyone in the hobby shares LOL

hope your bluespot like more room :D

Thanks ! What makes it also easy to do this swap is its only costing me 700 or so . My tank builder chipped in because i have crazing on my 120 which was caused by the solvent . IPS changed somthing in their formula that caused the problem . They addmitted it but my builder is the one eating the cost for my 120. So that cost is applied towards the 180 . I already have all the equipment so no money spent there either. :D

The Wuf had the same problem although mine hasn't split a seam like his 120 did.

My tank actually sits on a wood floor in the upstairs. It's positioned right on top of the floor joists, all of which are set into the concrete foundation. So I lucked out for the position. :)

clkwrk--THats awsome! It sounds like you sort of lucked out..there mistake is your gain! :D

True that you have all the equipment too. THis project should be awsome!

Definatly tagging along on this thread--if that isnt already evident lol :D

I am running PHX 250 DE's In the beginning it was ab10k.

I'm going crazy trying to figure out my lighting..I have 2 Luminarc reflectors and also an Icecap 660. My original plans were for 2 Luminarcs with 250w XM10K's and 4 -110w actinic VHO 2 at front and 2 at the back each pair of VHO's at an angle facing inward. Now with the tank in the wall I realize this aint gonna fit because the wall takes up 3.5 " over the front of the tank. So I might ditch the VHO's and go Pheonix 14k because then I wouldn't need the Actincs? ... right....but maybe I should go 400w then to get my par up....I would have to go with a diff brand Pheonix doesn't make 400 right?...I like the color of your 120 I thought I could achieve that with 2-250w XM's a 4-110w actinic VHO's...Maybe Pheonix will come out with a 400w......see I told you I'm confused..Oh well ......If you have any ideas let me know thanks.

Mike

P.S. when is the 180g comming?

Phx 14k on electronics work fine with out atinics as a matter of fact you can't even tell my atinics are on . Looks the same IMO with or without . I just use them for dawn dusk mainly.

You ae right PHX doesn't have 400w bulbs.

IMO I was really surprised with coralvue reeflux 12ks.Those were nice IMO close to the phx (eye wise)

Why not just get the 300 now and save the trouble next year! ;)

The steel stand for my 180 has supports all across the back but is open in the front under a piece of steel plate. The stand is 38" tall - I totally agree with the decision to go tall. Of course, I have to invest in a quality step stool.

We went with 1.5in 120wall sqaure tube. Did you find someone to build yours? Are you going with an attached steel canopy?

clkwrk, my bluespot got to big for my 180 after 4 years or so. They get huge!! Great fish though, I hated getting rid of him:(
