Why not just get the 300 now and save the trouble next year! ;)

The steel stand for my 180 has supports all across the back but is open in the front under a piece of steel plate. The stand is 38" tall - I totally agree with the decision to go tall. Of course, I have to invest in a quality step stool.

We went with 1.5in 120wall sqaure tube. Did you find someone to build yours? Are you going with an attached steel canopy?

I wish I could go with a 300g or so but then I would have to modify our mobile home to support the weight. Once we get out of this box and onto concrete then the big one will come :D I dreaming a 10' x3'x30".

I am having Keith Jackson Build the stand for me . He has already done a good handful of steel stands for other locals.Hopefully in the next day or so I should get a confirmation on competion date.

Can't wait to see your going :D

clkwrk, my bluespot got to big for my 180 after 4 years or so. They get huge!! Great fish though, I hated getting rid of him:(

Hopefully in 4yrs I will have a huge reef for him :D If not it will be hard to let him go .

Okay some little things to add :D

I know my tank is done :D and now I am just waiting on my stand then I can get going on the rest of the fun stuff.

I decided to copy my 120 design and adopt it to my 180 . This means my stand will be 34" wide which will accomadate my equipment and hopefully a small 18"lx18"w18"t frag tank that will be under the tank also.

Once I get the stand I will also start on the outside of it. I plan on making a free standing outside skin . So if I need to have total unobscured entrance I can just pull the whole outer skin of . I plan to do the same with the canopy just incase I need lots of access from the front or sides. But that will have to have a pin and clamp style assembly to sucure it to the canopys steel frame.

Thats all for now.

I thought you were going to wait until you moved to get a bigger tank. I see that your patience ran out lol! Good luck with the transfer, it is not fun. But in the end it will pay off.

I am when I move I am going 400-600g :D Thats my end point.

I am not worried about the move as I have had tons of experience moving and reaquascaping my tanks including the 120 . That was fun 90% of everything came out and then I reaquascaped then replaced corals. Only took 12hrs. I figure this time it will take 18+hrs with the 2 tanks being moved.

18 hours? WOW! I must agree that some of it is fun. I always had the annoying leak in the plumbing that showed up at the last minute, which was not fun. It usually happens just after all the hardware store close. How close are you to moving the tanks over?

Well I ran into a little snag ....I am now looking for another builder to build my stand and if I fail to find one that can help me in the next 2 weeks then I will start to build my own wood stand once again and this project will get moving :D

If I go with wood again this will be the way it will be built . With the only exeption being that it will be 6ft long and have a center brace which would make for openings close to 3 foot wide(more like 2 1/2 wide)

.

The finished look will be like my 120 .

CLK,

U Da mannn!!! I always love your set up bro. I wish I could see your tank live...must be nice all that stuff thriving and full of colors!!!

I knew you had issues with buying new stuff! You can't hide it, using the tang as an excuse, I play that card on my mom all the time!

Well I am almost 80% sure I am going to build my own stand .

I went down to Home depot to get prices of everything I would use and it came right up around $500. Which IMO isn't bad for a oversized maple stand.

Also I am also thinking about doing my front in soild maple instead of the 3/4 maple ply I use last time on the 120 .

Here is what the soild front would resemble.

and this is how it is on the 120's stand.

Also notice that all the grain is going the same dirrection.

What does everyone think of the 2 which looks better ?Just the style :D

1 thing that a solid front will do for me is allow me to go trimless on the front corners.

TIA

Okay $110 later and 3hrs work :D I still need to do the top crossbracing but not until I find out my tanks plumbing measurements. I also used a pocket hole jig for the majority of my screws.

Man!!! Can you come help me finish mine! You've been getting this done quick and it looks great. Can't wait to see pics of the tank and better yet to see it in person. You know there are lots of locals who could help with the transfer as well if you need it. Besides- you'll need at least 1 person just to keep an eye on Fliger to make sure he doesn't stuff his pockets full of corals :D J/K.

Wow. You have put some serious work into that stand ! :)

Its lookin good. :)

I bet its really strong--just looking at the crossbracing and all...One things for sure, you dont have to wory about this thing failing....EVER

:)
