Clkwrk's 180gBB SPS/LPS tank setup and progression log

Thanks Scott! Its getting there . Not as detailed as yours but I am going for a clean look with no fancy moldings . I am in the process of clear coating my front pieces now and hopefully I can have the front on by Sat. In the mean time I need to figure out if I should doo my bottom doors or canopy .........I guess I can always rig a lighing system if need but can't keep the kid out of the stand whan I not home ..

About the swap I will keep that in mind I have to start writing down a game plan because of what is all involved with setting this one tank up . Although I am half tempted to switch the location of the 180 so I can move the 90 later ....... I would also be glad to help you if time permits....Do you work on your at night after work?

Alien9168- Thanks! I was very happy with my 120's stand so I decided to do it again even though I know I could have gone with less wood but the piece of mind was worth the 50 bucks extra.

As a tie over until the next update here are some pictures I took recently of a few corals that will eventually be in this tank .

The lightest blue tort I have (out of 9)

Those are just a few teasers of whats to come .

I suppose I should have asked "can you finish mine for me" ? :D. I just don't seem to have much time to work on it and it's driving me crazy- I got wood, moulding, stain and tools all over the place! I just work on it in the evenings (when I can) and on the weekends. I'm really hoping to make some good progress this weekend. Let me know how the move goes and definately let me know if you need any help. And of course- keep the pics coming :)

that table is cool- how big is it now? Looks like it about 8-10" across!

Okay I have confirmation on my tank again :D It is suppose to be ready Tuesday.

So that means I need to step it up an notch and get my doors done the weekend for the stand . I just finished putting my 3rd coat on the skins and front pieces with hops of moving it in tomorrow . Hopefully I can just finish the whole stand this weekend and then worry about the canopy thru next week.

It's funny when I sit back and think about the 120 stand it was a 6 month work in progress while this one is coming together quick . Hopefully it turns out as nice if not better than my 120 stand . Only time will tell.

I agree. Piece of mind is definatly worth $50.

Especially with the water volume were taliking about here. :)

Its going to look great. I cant wait to see the tank.

I know itll turn out EVEN better than your 120. ;)

Okay I acomplish very little today. I spent half my day driving around trying to find go stock and 1/4" maple sheet for my doors. What a pita. Every thing I kept finding had no grain all white and no character. Anyways I finally tracked down some good wood and proceeded home. I was able to get the stand in the house after taking my door off......The stand was 1/2" too wide urghh  and I just finished getting the skins on and the front face. Tomorrow I start early on the doors and I should be able to get my trim done for the stand in the afternoon ..Although I can't put it on until the tank is on the stand and full. As I like my trim to ride right at the height of the bottom so no visual room is lost and besides my bare bottom always has some cool lps that would get hidden by the trim if it was above the bottom of the tank.

Anyways here are 2 pics and more in a few. I really like how the stain turned out and glad it didn't hide all of the grain .

 I wish ...........I will have some more pics here in a bit . I am making the doors now and will post after I stain them up . Then tomorrow I will clear coat them and do the top and bottom trim then the stand will be 100% minus frag tank setup underneath.

My only grip is that I will be having only 2 large doors on the front of the stand and canopy . Doors measure 29wx31t and when opened with euro hinges the doors only open 100 degrees which leaves both the stand doors and canopy doors hanging 29 inches out in front of the tank . Which is a long ways. Then I though about doing 4 doors on the bottom and top but in the end that was a total of 12 doors.........Man thats alot of work and then I still have to get around 15 inch doors and more of them .

So long story short I will be trying the roller clips and make the doors removable . That will allow the best clearance when getting into the tank and into the sump area. If I dislike that I will just go with the euro hinges and deal with the 3ft walkaround while the doors are open and duck while walking around .

Oh well back to work :D

okay the stand is 90% done next is to start the canopy .

Here are the doors and panels just stained.

Make sure you post pics of the frag tank...Your builder sounds awsome btw! :smokin:

Yeah buddy I'm getting excited now . The canopy frame is near completion just a few braces then I can stain it :D

Are you going to leave the back open or add fans too cool down the lighting? I dont remember if you said this already.

THe framing looks good.

I like how the lines from the canopy move down, in the same places as the stand...
The widths of the wood match up perfectly.
:)

Yes I plan on leaving the back open . I was also planning on putting a top on it so it would be enclosed when flush against the wall.

I was also planning on cutting 2 holes in the outside wall for those dryer vents which would have fans attached for exhausting the hot air but we will see how it goes before I get that drastic.

I believe with the streams only instead of a large closed loop and streams like I have now will make a big difference in the temp of the tank .

On a side note . I got a lot done today for starting @2 which was way late as I wanted a full days work on the stand .

Here is what I did.

Mask off my stand doors and clear coat the backs(3 coat's)
Sand all my new wood for the canopy doors
Cut ,stain and assemble doors
Clear coat the backs of my side skins(3 coats)
Clear coat my canopy frame(2 coats 1 to go )
Build ,stain mini stand for frag tank.

I can say after tomorrow I will be very close to the completion of the stand . Only things left are to caulk the inside of the bottom ,Install laminate on op of the bottom. Stand trim top and bottom .Canopy trim top and bottom . Lighting rack and last but not least cut out the hole for the overflow (once I get my stinking tank

Pictures to come tomorrow.
