Closed loop idea need advice (diagram)

Im putting in a closed loop with an OM squirt i want to hide the intake as much as possibel i wanted to put a bulkhead fitting in the overflow inside my tank and run the intake pipe through there with a strainer on the end. Will this work out ok?

People have used this sort of setup and gotten it to work. I'd be a bit worried about losing siphon with a hang-on, though.

ive had the hang on for about 6 months now its an amiriacle great overflow haven had any problems with siphon.

Well, as long as the total flow the through the siphon tube isn't too high, you should be okay. You might want to check the capacity of the overflow. I'm not sure how that would work.

it shouldn't be a problem.. I've had a siphon overflow before.. as long as you get enough flow going bubbles won't build up in the U-tube

I think you guys are missing what i am trying to do. Im keeping the overflow intact. I has the u tube in there already. What i want to do is run a pipe througth the oveflow with a strainer on the end. It would go through the overflow into the tank, hiding the pipe. the water would be sucked in the pipe from the tank and the overflow would just act as a housing to hide the intake of the closed loop

I see, the pipe extends into the overflow box that's in the tank. I guess that should work, as long as the box can provide the flow through the grating.
