Closed Loop or Tunze Nano Streams?

Kinetic

For about a 55gallon display, I was thinking about going with a Sequence Snapper as a closed loop pump with a OM 4-way. The problem is where to put the outputs. I thought about two on the backwall, and two on the bottom front, but then there's the problem of drilling and space under the sump for all the plumbing and equipment for the closed loop.

Instead, I found Tunze Nano Streams (coming out later this year), which are magnetically mounted, and only 2.7" diameter of space, which isn't much bigger than closed loop outputs / bulkheads. It also draws less wattage and can be controlled. I'm thinking two of these babies (1400gph each) with a controller would do pretty well as extra water movement.

What would you suggest? 4 outputs with a sequence snapper and om 4-way, or two tunze nano streams mounted on the back upper two corners of the tank?

Thanks!!

Tunze if you don't care about the PH look in your tank.. That thing looks pretty neat :) .. How much each?

The PH will look the same as a bulkhead I think. My closed loop outlets were going to be 1" omni-flex nozzles, coupled with a grey sched 80 bulkhead, might look worse than a 2.7" diameter ph? I think it's a good trade off. Look at prices on premiumaquatics, the controllable ones are $200 a piece, the non controllable are $60 for 660gph, and $93 for 1200gph. Big hype about it in the tunze forums.

If I can controll the non-controllable ones (by just turning them on and off via aquacontroller) then it'd be pretty darn cheap and easier to maintain and put together than a closed loop system.

I read somewhere in the Tunze forum that you should be able to control the 6025 and 6045 on a timer as long as the intervals are at least 15 mins. I'm also looking into these. Pretty cool!

I'd go with the Tunze. Less plumbing, less power, and a lot more versatile.

If I have some extra cash around, I might get a couple of these for Christmas to replace my SEIO 1100s. :D

I heard 5 - 15 minutes as well, though 5 minutes wasn't that highly recommended. =P

I'll probably plug them into my DC8 on my AC III. Should work beautifully, and cheaper then getting plumbing, a pump, and a om 4-way.

All that's left is when they'll be coming out...

Those Tunze folks are so dang smart... release a new kick-*** item right before Christmas. I know what's gunna be on a lot of reefer's Christmas lists. ;)

You like the look of the new Tunze nanostream don't you kinetic. That thing will produce alot of current in a tank. I personally think this is a better option than IceCap's VorTech. Price isn't too bad either.

Also, I read some where that you can controll up to eight of them with a tunze controller. SWEET.

Or go the cheap route, buy a wave maker type timer.

The tunze multicontroller can control up to 4 units, but you can add another 4 to it for a total of 8.

I'm definately going to get 2 of the 6045's that puts out about 1200gph each.

I'm going for about 70x turnover for my next tank ;)
