Im looking to get a 180 tank and it has no holes in and was trying to figure if I should go with a closed loop system what r the benefits with this and how many and how big should the holes be.
I have a 180g that was drilled for a sump (2 holes behind an overflow). I drilled a 1.5" hole for a direct feed to my skimmer (gravity feed with recirculation pump) and a 2.5" hole for a CL. I use a Reeflo 2400gph external pump and an OM4 (Ocean Motions) and 3 of their Revolution heads which provide incredibly random flow. I hid the pipes for these 2 drains behind a rock wall. The skimmer has a durso at the top of the drain. The CL is just open to the water with a big strainer as it won't siphon. I also feed the sump water back to the tank thru a SCWD and both lines over the back of the tank. The outflows are 'spraybars' that run in a square 'S' pattern down behind the rock wall. It's been running for 2 years now and my onlt maintenance has been a leak in the Reeflo pump.
