cloudy water aquapod 12g

Hey all, just wanted to see what others were doing with their 12g pod. I just set it up a few days ago. So far i have 20# of cured live rock, and 10# of sand and i used the foam pad in the first chamber, for now the second is empty, and the third is filled with 3# of cured live rock rubble from my LFS. Temp is stable around 81, and no leaks so far (knock on wood).

My question is, my water is still "cloudy" in a way that i just think the fine fine particles cant be caught by the foam pad and all. Its not bad, but i'd like it to clear up, and in my FW tanks iv always used accuclear. had anyone filled one of their chambers with a finer filter floss? How about any "reef safe" clear up products. Will the damage my live rock, and a few hermit crabs?

Ill post pics soon, cant find the cord to my camera

I'm having the same problem with my 12G Aquapod. The only media I am using is the foam pad in the far left chamber. Maybe I should get some LR rubble and put it in the chamber next to the pump.

Let me know if you hear of a solution.

Thanks!

I am using the entire pad. And when you ask about the lower vents, are you asking about the ones at the bottom of the tank, or the ones halfway up, or both sets of vents?

Also, what is a good technique to use to block the vents?

how long ago did u add sand? was ir aragonite sand or that super fine sugar sized oolitic sand? If its the super fine stuff you are going to have to justwait it out....I helped a friend setup a 10g with it and took two weeks to clear

as it sounds like you are noting using an AP12 i can only guess both blocking both would be required.

The only circulation of water should be through the teeth and down through the sponge.
that worked for me great when i left the lower vent open i just sucked it in and passed it though the power head rite back in to the tank.
soon as i blocked the lower then it settled over night.

I blocked off the lower inlet on my nano completely. Right now, I have livfe rock rubble in the 1st chamber and nothing else in any other chambers. I threw the foam and other bio media they supplied away. I do have a Remora skimmer and bviously a return pump (MJ900). The skimmer and weekley water changes keep the water crystal clear and the reef thriving.

You need carbon. This will clear up the water but is a must for
the over all good of the nano. I have been using Chemi-
Pure for many years. It comes in a mesh bag and just rinse
and place into the chamber of you choice. Get ready for very
very very clear water. It wont last 6 months more like 2 but
works great and is easy to use.

I also used a piece of plexiglass to block the vents all except for the top part so the water falls over.

I normally use chemi-pure in my bigger tanks but just used the carbon that came with the pod for now.
Mines been setup about 5 weeks now. It was only cloudy for maybe a day when I added the sand.

You can get chemi-pure in half sizes for small tanks.

I just use the sponge in the first chamber, heater in second and carbon in third.
I rinse the sponge in my old SW when I do water changes usually once per week.

How do you attach the plexiglass?

OK, thanks for the advice. I just went out and bought a 5oz bag of Chemi Pure and put it in my 2nd chamber. Right now the water is a bit cloudy, i hope that it will look better in a little while.
