cloudy water???

Hey guys
I woke up this morning and i've noticed that my water is a little cloudy...the tank is bb right now so its not a sand storm, although there was a little dust accumulating at the bottom but I don't think that's what it is....the tank doesn't have any fish in it yet and its been running for about a month now....I checked the parameters and they are all pretty good although my calcium is a little high at 480...I know you can get some some cloudy water when you're calcium is very high but would 480 do that???
any other ideas what is going on....should I do a big water change or just wait it out?

cheers!

I don't have any macroalgae but there is some growing on the rocks...they are still pretty small though...Im going to do a 25% water change and see what happens

I did 25% water change but still cloudy and today there was this slimy whitish coat on the top of the water in my sump....it looked like flemm..pretty nasty...does anyone know what is happening to my tank? It's been cloudy for 2 days now and its not getting better...I have a bunch of red macroalgae growing on my rocks...its not big...its probably around 1/2 inch, not bigger...could they have gone sexual?

Are you feeding anything that's got yeast in it? I'd back off feeding at least until that water clears.

no feeding...there is nothing but LR in it right now...no fish yet

I just rememberd...I added one cupfull of Seachem Reef Complete few days ago and my calcium was at 410...I wanted to bring it to 450 but its at 480 now...could it be a calcium precipitate?

That was my concern when I asked about macroalgae. I'd pull as much of it as you can out of the tank and keep doing large water changes.

It's tempting to rush the process but you're better off if you allow your tank to take its natural course through the various algae blooms that preceed a mature tank.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't cloudy water, especially with the little livestock that is in the tank, a sign of a bacteria bloom? It is a sign that the tank is maturing and now that it has settled down a little (one month old) the bacteria now bloom and populate the rock and whatever else is in the tank to a level that it can all sustain.

I just added 20 lbs. of live sand ( wanted to "coarse-up" the fine sand that was already in the tank) to an already up and running "newer" (a few months old, but with a few zoos and fish) tank setup. After the initial dustcloud, it cleared right up. Last night it started to get cloudy and I am just assuming it is going through another small cycle. I am thinking it will clear in a day or two.

Hope this helps....I remember reading about this at one time or another.
