clown compatibility in a 540 gallon

In about 1 month my 540 gallon peninsula tank will be complete. Currently, I have a maroon clown in my 120 gal and a mated pair of black perculas in my nano.

Does anyone think these clowns will be ok in the 540?? My thought is that there is plenty of room, but of course I would rather not lose the mated pair.

I wouldnt risk it. I thought my percs and oceleris pairs would be ok with each other in my 360. Both pairs in nems.....

It was not pretty, the male perc was severly bullied and was found a new home =[
 
ive heard of different species of clows in 90's. so try it out. if it doesnt work out. keep em in the nano.. or re-set up the nano (if your taking it down) and make it the clowns own little home.
 
Maroon clowns are very aggressive. Two species of clown are very problematical but perhaps in your sized tank if each has their own home anemone and they are located far away it MIGHT work. Odds are not good though.
 
what are the dimensions of the tank? a 540 has to be pretty big my thoughts are that people here are going with the norm about putting clowns in the same tank, a 540 is huge this is an exception of the rule theres more than enough room for them to coexist.
 
i would say go for it.... a 540 is a huge tank and as long as they both have thier nems they should be fine.... i know im going against the grain here, but i have had success with keeping a pair of tomatos and a pair of black saddlebacks in a 72 bowfront...yes a 72 gallon..
please do not flame me for this because if there was any aggression i would be the first to make it come to a halt.. the saddleback have been hosting in a green carpet and been with me for about a year and a half, the tomatos have been paired and added second to the tank about a year ago...ohh and they host in a gbt...both nems are on both ends of the tank and NO aggression has been showed..
i know that the marroons may be slightly more aggressive, but again its a huge tank..

I had a mated pair of Skunk Clowns and a Clarkii in my 90g and I currently have a Ocellaris and a Skunk Clown in my 29g Biocube. If you introduce them into the 540 at the same time, they will find there own area's I am thinking. I introduced the skunk and Ocellaris in my 29g at the same time and they are fine.

90g about 2 years ago. Clarkii is on the right middle and the Skunk pair is just left of the Frogspawn in the bottom middle.

Ive heard mixed stories about keeping clowns together and its been about 40/60. 60 being dont do it. But, I assume we can look forward to your build thread :D
 
just do it and if it doesnt work take one out. put them in on opposite sides of the tank and maybe the will stay on their own sides and never notice each other.
 
I agree here, as long as there are enough hiding spots, the maroons won't travel all over the tank to bully.

The real question is how long is the tank? It would be a different story if the tank was a 72*72*24 (~580G) cube as compared to a tank 192*30*20 (~540G). While one may be 40G or so smaller than the other, it also puts ten feet or so more linear distance between the clowns. I'm assuming the tank isn't a 6'x6' cube or a 16'-long monster, but the dimensions do make a difference.
 
I had a marroon and 2 percs in my 135. 72" long. The marron lived for many years--never left his side of the tank and the percs were fine. I now have a saddleback and a large clarkie. The large clarkie acts like a female clearing areas of sand with her tail and she is bossy towards the much smaller saddleback but he is undetered and always close by.
I say go for it. They will find their own areas.
 
thanks for those who applied. sorry i just noticed, my automatic reminder must not work and honestly i forgot that i put up this thread. the mated pair of false percs are currently in a nano with a mushroom garden. recently they have started to "nest" in some of the shrooms and the tank is really starting to look nice. my thought was to just put them in the main tank, but it now looks like i will place the nano on the wet bar in the bedroom. thanks though for all the opinions.

as far as the tank (for those who are interested), i wish i could do a tank build. i am moving in about two months and i am way to busy to get this tank up and running in time to prepare to transport my current reef. the tank is actually being installed by AGE in houston in a house that we are currently building in south texas. currently the stand is being placed and balanced and AGE will be on site to install around the first week of may. the choice to have it professionally installed was a tough one especially since my current 120 sps dominated tank was an entire diy project except the tank itself, skimmer and pumps. i don't think it will take away from my enjoyment though and i am sure my wife will be much happier.

the tank is around 540 gallons and measures 6 x 4 x 3 ft (lxwxh). it will be a peninsula tank dividing the main living room and kitchen. three sides are staphire glass with pvc bottom. two closed loops will be installed as well as 6 x 400watt MH with supp t5. my plan is to do one large rock structure with mainly sps with open areas of sand and small pods of rock with various corals and clams. i put up some pics of the install if anyone is interested.
