I put s clowns in ttm 10 gal tank at 11 am yesterday. All was good. I went in to check on them ant a brand new 13 gal heater had heated the tank to 84. The fish are swimming and eating mysis fine
i have taken that heater out and will replace it with a new once the tank reaches 80 on its own.
The 2 clowns are fighting like mad mouth and tale. Pulling no punches. Anyone understand what is going on here? Besides I have a defective heater.
I'm considering setting up another ttm tank and separating them.
Thanks

On the heater did you calibrate it with a trusted thermometer? I use a lab grade thermometer to calibrate mine. It is common to see the heaters thermostat off by as much as 4 degrees. Your first heater may be fine and just needs calibration.

There is never a guarantee that any two clowns will get along with each other. It helps if you get one large (presumably a female) and one smaller (male) clownfish, but even that will not necessarily mean that they will get along. If yours are fighting I would take back the smaller one and get one even smaller.

Unfortunately there is no calibration function available on this heater. The moral of the story; spend your tax refund on a good skimmer and the fish, coral or both, may croak with a faulty heater and thermometer

I never have goodluck with two clowns together unless they are very small when introduced and must be introduced at the same time. As for the heater is it an eheim? Because they recommend calibrating.
