The fish did not make it this morning. I was little too late in diagnosing the issue. Thanks for all your help in this. Will dry the QT and other equipments before getting a new fish.
Sorry to hear that. Very common in damsels, clowns, and anthias. That's one illness as soon as you diagnose it, it is usually to late. Moving forward, I recommend during Formalin baths for 50 mins upon arrival of new fish.
I want to make sure I read this right?your fish was put in your qt Before the tank has been cycled? I've only been into the hobby for just short of 2 years but do you think that could be an issue?I got my first saltwater fish a week back and put him a new 10g qt. but he is not eating at all and mostly stays idle at the bottom of the tank.
Below is my tank setup.
1. QT is uncycled (Im doing 50% water change every other day and monitor parameters with API master test kit daily and have ammonia alert patch)
2. 10 g tank, HOB filter, 240gph pump, RODI water, Temp is around 78 degree and salinity is around 1.020.
He doesn't have any visible marks indicating any issues with his health.
I tried:
1. Mysis Shrimp (Frozen)
2. Cobalt Mysis Spirulina (Flakes)
Also tried to feed him by dipping it in some garlic extract.
The rocks for my DT is currently curing so I cannot move him into the DT.
I will mostly likely give him back but I would like to know what am I doing wrong? Please share your thoughts on this..
that's the power head I have in my 10 gallon also,it's what people on this forum suggested, everything does great with it.You have a 240 GPH power head in a 10 gallon ? Places for him to hide? PVC tubes?
There is a huge difference between a bare tank (QT) and a tank with rocks. My clown fish don't like strong flow.that's the power head I have in my 10 gallon also,it's what people on this forum suggested, everything does great with it.

How do you cycle a tank without rock or sand?

I was basically following the brstv's video about curing pukani rock.
The pukani dry rock is currently put in a trash can with salt water, heater and HOB filter in a dark room.
I also added bio spira to speed up the process. Once nitrates stop rising(approximately 4 to 6 weeks), I will assemble the rock into the display tank with 100% new saltwater, put live sand and add more bio spira and wait for a week before adding first fish.
