I purchased 3 Ocellaris Clown Fish about 6 months ago. Two of them are almost all black now and one is still bright orange. They all 3 seem healthy. What could be happening to change their color?
Looks to me like the person you bought them from didn't do a good job separating the black and whites from the regular ocellaris... Black and white start out orange then turn black as they mature
Most Ocellaris and Percula increase the black sections of of their coloration over time with proper feeding and care. The first two look like Onyx clowns which are typically A. Percula. It is true that black and white "Darwin" Ocellaris get blacker as they get older but those aren't Darwins.
If you're unhappy with your purchase, I'll gladly take them off your hands. Beautiful fish!
The don't look like Onyx, which typically fill in their black from front to back. These look more like either Photon or SA fancy ocellaris. Black and white ocellaris slowly turn black -- starting orange, then turning to a brownish color resembling mocha clowns, then to full black with the snout either remaining orange or turning full black.
