clown fish - white stringy poop

yesterday night i saw one of my clowns had a white string poop about an inch long hanging from it. both have been pretty energetic and eatting well. although this morning one of them does look a little sick and maybe losing some colors on the fin. he also seems like he is breathing a little heavier.

they are in 10 gallon qt tank and are tank raised clowns.

the clown in question just ate a good helping of food and is swimming around energetically.

Yes I would agree that it could be a parasite. I have seen this symptom with several of my fish in the past years. They usually make a full recovery which is good.

Sounds like internal parasites... A medicated food will help.

what kind of ingredients should i be looking for?

ive been giving a mix of foods but i have stuff that contains garlic, spirulina, and other vitamins and minerals.

not sure why you are bumping this. did you research the symptoms with the 'search' function on this forum? you will find a lot of potential cures by doing the research.

because nobody has given me a definate answer. im not going to go buy a product for a "could be" parasite, especially one without a name. if the fish isnt sick, dont treat it, common rule of thumb here i believe.

also nobody answered me about the above ingredients i mentioned.

i did contribute. in fact, i did a search myself and found A LOT of threads about your very same issue. i'm only offering it as some advice since you didn't get an answer in this thread.

i have also searched. i always do searches before posting questions. and too found numerous threads which didnt lead to very much answers. the problem is there could be a number of causes for this. and for someone new (like me) it can be hard to determine the probable cause, even with an infinite amount of information at my finger tips.

i have read about internal parasites, external parasites, thread worms, and other possible causes but im still not 100% convinced of any of it. which is why i came to ask my questions. the most probable causes come back to parasites which is why i bumped in the first place.

all i want to know is will the garlic, spirulina and other stuff contained in my food help?

garlic in fish food will stimulate an appetite, but i don't believe it will 'cure' any diseases, parasites, infections, etc.

what does NORMAL clownfish poop look like.

it pooped another string after feeding today. looked half white, half brownish

also seems to be doing better since wc earlier today.

and starting to notice seizure like behavior (smaller clown), ive read this is a sign of submission though

hmmm... i don't know that i have ever caught mine in the act. i've seen my coral beauty deficate and it was dark colored.

+1 people should be able to post their concerns without getting flamed for not searching. This was a legit thread with a concern that isn't easily answered for someone who is new to the hobby and looking for expert advice and concerned about the well being of their livestock.

As for the OP I don't have any suggestions as I haven't dealt with internal parasites or identifying them but free bump for you sir :thumbsup:

haha thanks. that is exactly how i felt even though i did do some searching. however it can be very confusing for someone new who is concerned for their livestock because there is A LOT of information out there and its not 100% correct. i dont blame him either though. it can be frustrating for more experienced hobbyists to be bothered by newb when answers already exist. more documentation and stickies are the only solution though.

I have 2 OC clownfish for about 7 months and have never seen them actually poop, so I'd say white poop = not normal. HTH

for the record, i wasn't bothered nor frustrated. i wanted you to get your answer and figured it would be faster if you searched it yourself, if you hadn't already done so. you didn't state that you had searched on your own, so i wasn't going to assume that you had.

and i'm sure most people here know what a 'flame' is, and it's clear nobody was flamed in the making of this thread. nor do i appreciate the implication that i flamed anyone. trust me, you'll know when the flames fly.
