Clown Goby lays on everything...

Hey,

Does anyone else have a clown goby? I have a green clown goby and its a great fish for a nano tank and its doing fine in my tank but i have 1 complaint... HE LAYS ON EVERYTHING... he just takes a rest and lays out on all my corals... this causes them to close up... will they get used to this and remain open when he lays on them?

His favorite corals to lay on is my Sinularia Green Finger Leather... My brown/green acropora.. the base of my toadstool, my colt coral and all my mushrooms... the mushrooms and the colt remain open though they don't mind

I just got rid of mine (a yellow clown goby) for that same reason. It's coral of choice was candy cane.... and the coral was none to happy with it.

My friends layed on a small piece of aiptasia ... it was the last time he layed on anything. I think those types of gobies ... gumdrops, citrons etc... are hella stupid ... After aclimating mine I opened the bag and he swam straight into a carpet... the end! I will never purchase one of those again ... i'd rather get some brine shrimp for the price.

Most of the corals get use to it. I have a yellow clown goby in my tank, and his fav spot is on the candy cane.

In my seahorse tank, all of my corals no longer close up when they hitch on them. Every coral is different though. Good luck!!

those little gobies are a pain, if they laid in your sps it will make them rtn, try to get it and get some store credit

ya, i have two LARGE ones (about 1.5") and they do lay on alot my old one RIP, he was better about it (much smaller) and he was a Yellow clown Goby.. he stayed on either the glass, silicone, or a green mottled mushrooms. the two full grown Citrons i have now are new so i cant say much about them..

i have no problem with my neon. even though he resides in a tiny hole in LR that has few aiptasia around it, he always seems to go around them.

only thing he EVER perches on is my mag float, lol.

My green clown goby used to sit on my toadstool all the time. Initially, the toadstool didn't like it and closed up, but after awhile it got used to it. It was pretty cool.

My ycg perches all over the tank, nothing seems to mind. I just got a green clown goby for my pico, and both at the LFS and in my tank he seems to ignore corals in favour of rock. Wierd little fish, but they're loads of fun as long as your corals aren't being damaged by their attentions.

yeah my corals arent damaged they just close up when he brushes up against them... then they try to open when he stays still or leaves but then he annoys them sometime later on in the day...

but i had a neon goby and that is not the same fish i am talking about here... my neon goby was fine and only perched on rock and mag floats but this is a Green Clown Goby... the neon likes open water as well as perching on rock but this guy just perches alllll day haha

but hes not doing any damage.. my corals would just look nicer if he'd stop being so rough when he lays down

I have a citron clown goby, and it perches on everything. In sthe morning it spends its time scooting across the rock work after pods. I would say mine sits all day. More like figets. My candycane was upset for a while, but got over it.

Mine perches all over the place but my tank is not a nano so I guess he moves around enough that the corals don't mind.

My green clown pretty much hides in my branch rock.

My yellow clown goby is fun to watch BUT.... He lays on the clam <no big deal, the clam doesnt seem to mind>. Right now I only have a few SPS but he keeps laying on them. He acts like it is his duty to keep the polyps closed. He seems to like the acro and encrusting types, but mont-digit he stays away from.

The yellow clow is on my fecial matter list....

cool little fish. they are like little flame hawks. kind of a pain
but kind of fun. give it time. they grow on you. like a fungis.
lol G.F.I. dbr

yeah the corals have gotten used to him laying on them... you just cant keep hard corals near him and my tank is so small that he always found my acropora until it died... he would lay on it and nip at its polyps.. so i moved it to a different tank but it was too late... and now the clown goby is very very skinny... i think he hasnt been getting enough food due to all the competition

OK, I am done with this guy. Now how do I get him out. I have a lot of rock structure. I am going to have to trap him. Maybe some white tooling <wedding net stuff> under and around a favorite sps of his with 4 corners hooked to a string. This is NOT going to be easy. I just ordered an acrylic trap 4x6x11 but I suspect that may be to big. we will see. That one has a manual string trap door.
