i have a sps only 65 gallon tank. my tomato clown needs something to host. im looking for something that will not have any negative affect to my other corals. something that will not grow too large. TIA.

actually a clown in captive care don't need anything to host. the reason they host in nature is due to them being poor swimmers, and the anemones they host protect them from predators. where in captive care they don't have that problem.

but things that they may host in would be frogspawns, torch corals, long tentacle plate corals, hammers, ect.

heck, mine have hosted in my shrooms, toadstool leather, Kenya trees, and frogspawn corals.

thanks for the feedback Sam. do i need to be concerned with growth and tentacle range with these suggested corals?

Actually clowns can damage some of the corals they choose to associate with (by the way, the anemone hosts not the clown).

With some of those, you do have to watch for sweeper tentacles.

Mine have hosted shrooms, xenia, and currently a large candycane colony.

they are pretty much home bodies. What ever spot they like is where they'll hang IME. My mated pair hang in a rock cave, where they lay their eggs.

My clown has started hosting in my open brain coral. Actually sleeps in it and it looks like he is getting eaten :) Brain doesn't seem to mind though. Just makes feeding the brain quite difficult
