Hey everyone,

I just got this clown the other day but can't quite figure what kind it is. It was sold to me as a sebae clown but from the pictures I've seen sebae clowns have yellow tails. I've looked at some Clarkii pics and it doesn't look like a clarkii either. any ideas?

Yeah, it is probably a saddleclown, amphiprion polymnus.
Some saddle clowns look very similar to the true sebae, but I am pretty sure it is a saddle. The solid black color oround the second stripe makes it a definate saddle clown.

Here is a sweet link that will show you the color varieties of the saddle clown.

Even when sebae clowns have a black tail (on rare occasions) they don't have the third white stripe.

Thanks to everyone that responded.. I didn't know there were so many varieties of clowns.

Now I just need to find another anemone.. it was strange, I've had 2 false perculas for almost a year and they would always host in the hammer coral and never go near the rbta. Once they saw the saddlebacks host the anemone, they wanted in too. It was cool though, the first night, I had a percula and saddleback sharing the anemone.

surely A.Polymnus no doubt about it, it will lose its yellow tips over time. nice fish, tough on anem's though
