clown jumped

:( I was looking at my tank today and notice that 1 clown was missing. After looking through the tank, i couldnt find him anywhere. i checked the floor, and there he was :(

He was eating this morning, and i just retested PH 8.2 Ammonia 0 nitrates 0 nitrites 0 salinity 1.025 and he is with peaceful tank mates, another ocelairs clown, 1 chromi and a lawnmower blenny. All of which look real healthy.

Is there any reason that he could have jumped?

going to home depot soon to buy egg crate to put on the top to prevent future jumpers :(

sorry for the loss my first and only so far has been a pseudochromis...in any case they jump when they get startled...or if they get chased...chances are the other clown may have beaten on him...but i wouldnt put money on it.

were they added togheder? separately? usually water quality is not what makes fish jump its the chasing or the fear of being attacked that makes them swim away fast without knowing where.

you might want to invest or build a canopy so this wont reoccur

or many get away with putting an egcrate on top ...its a cheap inexpensive fix and with a bit of talent it could look good aswell.

Actually, egg crate will not stop 99% of jumpers. It will work for some, but not most. If you inadvertently but two female clowns in the same tank, one may have been intimidated into jumping by the other.

i dont think they were both females (one was larger than the other), they seemed to be a pair at the LFS and were fine for like 5-6 weeks. Guess ill just have to pick up her up a new buddy soon.

I read about eggcrate, seems like it will stop some, but not all and cuts on the light some and ruins the look of moonlights, so im still open to idea, or maybe just leave it open and hope it was a 1 time thing (fish list doesnt really include any known jumpers) or look into a canopy
