Clown List, What Would You Choose, And Why??

Hey guys i had some maroons that came down with brook and died when i tried to help them out with fw dip. They were ultimate juveniles smaller than a penny if you saw the fav clownfish thread.
So im going to need some ideas on some other clowns..
I have btas so it needs to be compatible.
Theses are what i have in mind:

Akindynos
Allardi
Bicintus
Chrysopterus
Clakrii

Now what clown would you pick and why would you pick it. Who is more susceptable to ich, brook, any other disease that i cant think of. Im going to QT them for a long *** time probably 4-6 weeks+ and do hypo and maybe some other medications if you can give recommendations.

Just out of curiosity, how long does the display have to be empty from previous clowns being in there with Brook?
Sorry for the long thread just need some help, ideas and what to go with as it will be species only tank for the clowns when i setup my new tank with will be around 90-125g. So please do help me! Thanks Everyone!!! In Advance.....
 
My personal favorites are Chrysopterus, but they are difficult to acclimate and get through QT. They are very susceptible to brook. If they make it through QT they do as well as any other in the Clarkii family. I would only try these if you are planning a long QT and really want them.

The others are all pretty easy to find and do better with shipping and QT. I think Akins or Allardis look better then bicinctus or plain clarkiis.
Personality wise, the clarkii family are pretty similar.
 
whats the best way to deal with brook if you have chrysopterus in QT, i have always wanted chrysopterus always always always its only if my supplier can get them in im waiting for him to send me a list of what he can get in.....so im hoping one of these will be on the list...but whats the best route for brook other than the FW dip? Formalin? Copper even though i wouldnt want to do it...

i love allardis big als heres always has them for some weird reason and like $22 which is wierd
 
Clarkii are probably the hardiest on that list, with chrysopterus the least hardiest. The others are in between. Just my experiences. In order for any parasites to die off, your tank should go fishless (and I mean completely fishless) for a month, preferably 2 months. The longer the better. Good luck next time.

I agree with Dan and the clown hardy scale and the fishless advice.

I would add, the whole system needs to be fishless, not just clowns. Other fish host brook as well.

FW dip is ineffective against Brook. Formalin works but is tough to administer.

IME, chrysopterus are also Amyloo magnets, so you might be dealing with a copper treatment as well.

I would avoid them unless you are familiar with advance medicating. Chrysopterus are just extremely touchy and have a horrible rate of mortality.
 
Hey my supplier has clarkiis from indian ocean in right now so I'll be grabbing them won't have them in until septemeber 7th. All that's in the tank right now is a green chromis which I can't catch and a black cap basslet. I'm probably going to get one of those acrylic pest things you put in the tank so I can get them out. I will be qt'ing the clarkiis for 4 weeks at least probably a week with regular salinity and then a week later ill start hypo for 4 weeks so I guess a total of 5 weeks you guys see any problems in this? Should I go formalin right away with them cause I had read that they're pretty susceptible to brook? So should I go ahead and formalin them along with the black cap? I'm not putting the chromis back in the tank its going in with my mantis and 3 stripe damsel who will get eaten first battle so any problems you guys see here?
 
QT the Clark's, in fact any new additions for 4 weeks.

I would start QT near the shipping SG and would not deviate from that level unless it was out of wack. With Clarks I wait for symptoms to appear, they have proven quite tolerant to most bugs and slow to succumb when stricken. Such a hardy disposition is exactly why they have the widest distribution of clowns and why I believe you will have time to begin treating when the symptoms appear if at all.

Just my opinion of course and I am counting on you looking out for elevated breathing, scratching, skin erosion, etc.,etc., ;>)

i know everyone has them but thought about false percs or any reason you dont want them. i find people like them because they look like nemo.

i know they say that false's wont host bta's but thats not true they do.. mine love my RTBA....never seen them more then about 1foot away from it...haha
 
i had some before i had true percs but i like a bigger clown and its going to be a species only tank...once i setup my larger full blown sps tank. I usually dont qt because i pick up from a friend whos really really good and he lives 8 minutes from me. So i rarely qt...but im going to now especially after the brook disaster. i havent had any problems with fish getting sick before but then again theres a first for everything right.

traveller7 do you know what the difference is in the Indian Ocean clarkiis? You think they will have more coloration than where ever the others are from that wholesaler has? On the suppliers list its saying there Bright Yellow Clarkiis Indian Ocean....so they're probably juvi's without any black coloration or do you think they'll stay bright yellow i dont have any pics of them probably wont get anything until september 7th.

Wholesale listings of clowns are terrible indicators of what you are going to recieve :(

fwiw: If I was buying Clark's as my species tank, I would consider shopping for Vanuatu Clark's (very often 2 stripes, bright yellows, and even slight blue in the stripes). Here is likely pair of Vanuatu Clarks:

I have no idea what you will get from a listing of "Indian Ocean" clarks although the wholesale pricing may be a good indicator *if you saw it.

I chose black and white Occ. I just like the coloration, wonderful looking fish.

Otherwise, I'd have maroon :D
 
i'm going to sell off my btas cause hes got 2 sebae anemones in right now over 8" each typical creamish brown with purple tips, so i'll get rid of the btas and keep the sebaes and once he gets the clowns i'll see if he can get a pic of them so i can post them for you guys...i have a feeling they're gonna be super nice..

any way that you can feed them anything that the get that darker coloration? Doesnt matter but is there any way that you can get that coloration??
