Hi guys I bought a clarki clown 2 days ago and its not doing well at all. he just seems to be laying on his side and breathing very heavy. I tried feeding him but he is not eating at all. I check the water parameters and they fine everything as they should be. He is in quarantine since I bought him. I dont see anything visably wrong with him. when he does swim around which is alomst never he does this twitching think as if he is getting some sort of fit. He not scratching himslf against anything through so I dont think its some irritation on his body. if anybody has any ideas of what else it could be or what I can do to help this little one I am open for suggestions thanks

Not too sure. I never asked the dealer. do you think it could be cyanide?I believe some fish are caught using cyanide or something or the other.

oh ok. I dont know about that but it will be quite sad if I loose it I have been trying to get a clarkii for quite a while now. I will just hope for the best

hey.. regardless of whats wrong with him at the moment. run to fish store/pet store whatever and get MARACYN 2. Im very glad to hear its in qt. this makes your life easier.

use DOUBLE the dosage. (2 tablets first day.. 1 tablet a day for the rest of treatment) although, that doseage is for a ten gal. tank.. justr make sure you double the dosage.

it treats a couple things. but it will help with breathing and appitite for sure.

also. add an air stone to your qt (air pump, hose, and airstone youd need) this will add extra oxygen to the water and help slow his breathing

after you do this keep reporting on anything you see and we'll try to help with a diagnoses. but the maracyn will help keep him alive long enough to find the root of the problem.

and heck.. if its bacterial all you'll need is the treatment of maracyn 2.

(my clown had extreame heavy breathing, her fins started to rot, wouldent eat.. her cheeks even swelled) maracyn 2 kept her alive

oh.. fyi.. it'll turn your water pee yellow. dont worry its ok :)

crap. i dident see you were from africa :( can you get medication where you are?

oh.. as for wild caught... i dont think they are any more diseased or troubled than usual. the lfs's ive been to lately actually have healthier looking fish than winter time. I bought a wild maroon and qt'ed it. the only trouble it had was internal parasites whitch was easy to cure

lol, he's in Capetown, a fantastic city, 4 times bigger than Columbus, Oh. Like most Americans, you think everyone from Africa lives in a mud hut, don't you?
