Clown not really moving

Hi, i did a search but did not come to any real answer, so I though I could ask the RC peoples.

my clowns are laying in the corner which is done during sleeping time, but then today i came home late after the lights were out. however, when i turned on the lights, they are not moving. does this mean they are still sleeping or is this something to be concerned about.

there is visable signs of damage to the clowns, one just lays in the corner and once in a while the other would nudge him a little.

did i disturb them while sleeping? i though they would be back to active once the room lights were turned back on.

i have the two clowns and emerald crabs in the tank, nothing else. could the emeralds be attacking them?

you see signs of damage. how new are they. they could just be fighting if they are new, and or sometimes just some nips. My ocells dont move to much at night. but when my lights are on for a little bit they get a little more active. your clowns sound fine. fish are not like sharks they dont need to constantly moveing to keep breathing.

I wasn't sure about one thing in your post--are you saying there are signs of damage on your clownfish, or there aren't? Emerald crabs have a mixed reputation, especially as they get bigger. All crabs are omnivorous to some degree and may opportunistically attack random sources of protein (i.e., small or sleeping fish).

Have your lights just come on? My female ocellaris has scared me before by acting very sluggish and hovering just above the substrate when the MH comes on in the morning. After 5 or 10 minutes, she seems to "wake up" and goes back to behaving normally.

the clowns seem to be doing better and moving more. there are no visual signs of damage, so dont think its the emerald crabs.

i'll have to keep an eye on it.

You woke them up. They get pale and sluggish when they're sleeping. Just imagine if you were dead asleep at 3 AM, and someone came in and turned the sun on in your bedroom! Once the lights are out for the night, you should leave them that way. No need to disturb and distress them just so you can have a look, right?

sushi, you are right. it would be annoying to sleep and be waken up.

however, what do people do when the tanks are in a room that they need to get into at night after lights are out. you have to turn on the lights, right.

I thought you meant you turned on the tank lights. Usually, if I have to come in I try to turn on a lamp or a hall light or something that throws less light, but you're right, sometimes it can't be helped if there's no alternative. Maybe install a nightlight in that room for when you come in late?

If you have actinic lighting on your tank, you can set the timer (or cut them on manually, if you don't have one) to have those come on 30-45 minutes before the brighter "daytime" lighting, and stay for an hour or so after the daytime bulbs cut off. This simulates dawn and dusk, and gives your tank inhabitants a chance to acclimate to both light and darkness every morning/evening.

i'm actually looking into getting moonlights right now. i turn on my light at like 3 in the afternnon since ther room has good sunlight. so i guess the moonlihgt iwll go on at night only.

moonlights are great..i have a sunpod with white and blue leds that are on a lunar dimming cycle..along with that i also have t5s with leds that stay on 24/7..at night everything glows awesome colors..my moonlights have changed the way i look at my tank now..
