Clown pairing

How long until it's a safe bet that the clowns will pair as opposed to fight?

I'm not worried about them mating and producing eggs, only that they play along together in the same tank.

I recently added a very small clown and one about twice as large based on the recommendation on this board that the smaller one will convert to the needed sex based on the larger one.

Almost instantly the little one ran up to the larger one and has been following ever since. Is this a good sign or will time determine if they'll fight?

By small I mean .5-.75".

I bought two small clowns and one got larger than the other I have had them for about two months and the larger clown just started getting a little nasty but nothing major. The little one doesn't have any signs of injury. I would just watch out.

In most cases, if she was going to do harm to the little fella she would have done it at first sight. The fact that she's allowing him to fallow her around is a very good sign. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

dont worry. i went through the same thing. like elegance coral said, if she dont maul him right away you should be fine.

But, keep an eye on them. I had a pair of B&W Os, that got along great for the first 2 months, and they the female turned into a holy terror, ended up killing the male. :(

That would be terrible. That's my girlfriend's favorite fish. :(

That's why I started my last post with, "In most cases". There are exceptions to every rule. I've even heard of females killing males after years of spawning together. At least their divorce rate is no where near as bad as ours. lol.

Speak for yourself, I have one divorce, and have had one divorce with clown pairs. ;)

At least my ex didn't kill me.

Thanks. Not hard to keep per se, but hard to get a fully healthy one. Not sure way, but them seem to have a habit of looking great for the first 3 weeks, and then going downhill from there. After that I have found them hardy. I recently lost the larger one of my pair. Did great the first 2 weeks, and then just stopped eating, and died. The whole time the smaller one was active, and eating like a pig.

All of mine I have gotten online (( The Diver's Den section of LA ))

Yea, I really like them. Am thinking of trying another pair once I get my new (( new to me, it is used )) 30 cube set up.

They mate in the first hour. I have paired many true perc's if they are going to fight it will happen right away. but usually the smaller one just becomes the male in a short time. If you had them together more then a few hour you are fine.
