Clown playing with my emotions

Moved On
I just got an anemone yesterday and my clownfish gets so close to anemone and as soon as hes about to jump in he bolts, I wish there was something I can do to get him in there

my first anemone was a haitian. i was told that no clown would host this anemone being that their arent any clowns in the carribean. hate to say it but they were wrong, my maroon jumps from my sebae to my haitian. she actually hosted the haitian when it was the onle nem in tank. just be patient.

I remember watching a doc. that said something about how a clown will acllimate to the stings of its host. If this is assumed to be true maybe your clown "getting real close" is doing just that.

Well it would be nice to think that anyway lol good luck.

I just read somewhere that percula's will not host with a BTA, I hope this isnt true

My Percula hosts in my BTA, so that allegation is false. Not as readily as other species of clowns mind you, and there's no guarantee but it can happen. It took mine three months I think to do it. Also, for about a week before mine hosted, he'd get close to the nem like yours is doing, and next thing I know I found him one morning snuggled up in it. Is the Percula tank raised or wild caught?

I wish I knew, but the lady at the lfs didnt tell me

Just wait it out, there is never a guarentee they'll be hosted. Kind of a chance you take when you put them with an anemone they don't naturally go with.

as said above, I have read numerous sources that say juvenile clowns have to accostom themselves to the sting of a particular type of anemone...so if your clown is not used to this type of anemone then it will have to get itself used to the sting...contrary to popular opinion clowns DO get stung by the anemone, but their slime coat somehow deflects the stings and overtime they are immune to its effects.

I had a clown in a tank with a BTA for 6 months before it would host in the anemone...prior to that is hosted in a bubble coral...

also, sounds like the clown has been in the tank prior to the anemone, so it may be accustomed to the tank and where it likes to hang out...somehting that has worked for numerous people is to remove the clown for a day or so...rearange the rocks and put the clown back in...then it is much more likely to host the anemone quickly...its the same principle as when you add aggressive fish at the same time...their memories are short and after a day or two they forget their "territory"

also, do a google search about clown's "smelling" their anemone's...juveniles apparently learn to find their host anemone by smell? very odd info, though I have read this many times...thus if they were born near a certain type of host anemone then the clown will probably be smelling for its old home for some time, once it finds its anemone, the two will be inseperable
