I seem to have a clown that wants to get out of the tank. She spends the majority of her time in the top 4 inches of a 20 inch water column, swimming laps around the tank. I've had her over a week and she is yet to explore the rock structure for hiding places, let alone find the anemone. On the plus side, I suppose is that she never hides. Ever. I've yet to even see her swim through the rockwork.
First, is the normal? I can't recall ever seeing a fish spend this much time at the top. She even 'sleeps' in the top back corner, one fin flipping the surface of the water at times.
Second, what can I do to encourage her to check out the rock, sand and anemone?
Aquarium is 58 reef-ready 18x36x22. Rio 14 hf for circulation. Normal parameters, with a recent ammonia spike (.25) now that I'm trying to feed a finicky eater. Nitrate is slightly high (30) but there's a dearth of inverts and they aren't the issue right now. 20 lb live rock with plenty of places to hide. Only other fish is a bi-color blenny.
Thoughts or suggestions appreciated. I need to find a way to talk her down.
