Clown Trigger Autopsy

I purchased a beautiful Clown Trigger exactly four weeks ago. Lately, his belly has been inflamed although his coloration and fins are outstanding with no abnormal spots or tears. He has unfortunately bit the dust.

Is there such thing as an autopsy to help future scientist learn about these fish. I sure dont want to spend too much additional funds, although it would be interesting to find a cause of death.

How should I preserve my precious specimen?

A veterinarian that is experienced with fish can perform a necropsy. However, it can cost a bit, and in the end, there is no guarantee of a diagnosis. To preserve a specimen, you can refrigerate it until the exam is performed. This must happen within a few days before things start breaking down. Do not freeze it as freezing will damage tissues and render such an exam useless.

Sounds like he maybe had a bladder infection. Did he swim funny or list to one side?

May he rest in peace...

I've heard of LFS's purchasing a livestock shipment from time to time that is captured using cyanide. Cyanide captured fish display striking color for some odd reason. They normally don't eat much and die within a few weeks.
