Hey guys,
Picked up a 4 inch CT yesterday.... Acclimated him for an hour, and put into display... Was around 1pm... He swam around, diving in and out of rocks, was playing with other fish, very social, no fear, he ate 2 feedings of krill and jumbo mysid like it was his last meal... Tore it apart...

This morning he looks lazy... He wouldn't eat, and is kinda slowly swimming around the top parts of my tank.... His color looks fine. Possibly a tad pale

What could change so fast???

I was thinking time change,.....

Any suggestions?

Parameters are all good. Tank as 250 lbs LR, 4 years old... All other fish are fine...

YouTube video above of him after a few hours in tank, you can see him eating at the end of video.... :(

Guys,
I feed a ton of krill and jumbo mysid yesterday... Is it possible the fish is bloated and ate to much?? And is being lethargic from that? I did feed a ton yesterday... I always feed heavy on first day to stimulate eating.... He also ate ate the store before I picked him up...

Any help greatly appreciated...

Steve

wow dude that sucks, think you could post a vid of him today? might help with us figuring out what is wrong.

I did post a video of day one above...

Will try later... What amazes me is that he had such a great day, and day 2 was totally different.... Very weird... My wife said he was still hanging around the top as of 2 hours ago... Kinda hiding behind rocks, then coming out.... :(

his color and behavior both looked excellent in the video...sure he wasn't just getting pushed around by a larger tankmate?

Looking at the fish in the video, you will likely run into trouble in the long run. You have two fish that I've seen individually wipe out everything in much larger tanks overnight, without much warning.

Also, just because the sohal has been easy going in the past does not mean it will stay that way. Any time you add a new fish to a tank, you change the dynamics.
I do agree with the others that the CT looks fine in that video.

Wolverine,
Just weird to me that first day he was great, 2nd day he is being shy as hell..... I just got a good look at him, no visible marks, cuts, fins and tail look clean....

I'm agreeing with the bullying theory, he looks like a pretty small fish compared to much bigger fish that are known to be aggressive. I'd be hiding too.

As long as he isnt getting picked on too much, he will probably get socially acclimated and start coming out more and more, but if there is any one fish that is constantly harassing him, this is the behavior you'll most likely get out of him for a long time to come.

I agree completely with Wolverine's post above. It sounds like you didn't QT the CT. I sure hope that whatever is bothering the CT isn't contagious. For less than half the price of this new fish, you could set up a decent QT. I've had many fish (over many years) that started doing well in QT, then went downhill. I have no idea whats going on with him; but I wouldn't rule out cyanide poisoning; its really making an ugly return as a capture method. (especially in the Philippines). Also, a Sohal is perfectly capable and willing to kill any new fish through sheer stress. They often charge a fish they don't like (they don't like newcomers) from the opposite end of the tank, forcing their target to take cover. I hope all comes out well, but I don't see long term harmony. The CT will eventually insist on being the Alpha fish, do what CTs do, kill or maim anything in sight, and the Sohal won't tolerate any other fish being the big cheese.

Great news guys... He was out and about this morning and ate very well... At least 10-12 good size pieces of small shrimp, and hunted around after for even more when it was all gone... Know one is harassing him. I did see the purple tang swim up to him, but the clown trigger warded him right away...

Take a look at this morning above link during feeding... His color also looks much better this morning...

It still amazes me that people still put fish from a LFS directly into the display. You are playing Russian Roulette Darth and all your fish will one day be the casualties. You will save yourself from a tank wipeout by investing in a QT.

Good luck with the CT.

Niles, While I hear and respect your opinion, It's probably best not to criticize people for what they do. I do as I feel right, and have has salt water tanks for many years now, and know how to deal with new fish, as per how it pertains to me. I have has disease issues and dealt with them, and never had any real problems...

That being said, thanks for the advice...

No offense was meant. It is your tank, do with it whatever you like. You came on here looking for advise and what I said is what everyone else is thinking and is the best advise you can get.

With that, I will sign off from this thread. Good luck with the fish.

Niles,
Again, thx for advice... I honesty have never had room for a QT tank.... And know it's something I should do...
Cheers my friend...
