I have a 6in clown trigger in my 180 gal agressive community.
I have had him for about 3 months and for the first two he ate squid, clam, and shrimp with gusto. But for the past month he decided to just stop. Now he only eats nori, algae flakes, and algae wafers .... The fish is a carnivore, so is this healty ??? I tried adding garlic and selcon to the meats, but no luck. I plan to keep fedding the greens cause i beleive this is what is keeping him alive. Any suggestions to get him back on meat, or is he just flat out a vegitarian ???!?!

You could try to feed him live stuff, he might be willing to try that.

Also, if you can, you could probably soak the veggies in a protein and fat suppliment to get him to bulk up.

Thanks for the reply. I ried live glass shrimp and even life feeders, he showed no interest. I contacted my lfs, they said they had no protein and fat supplement ?!?! Is there an online source ???

read back on the posts on this forum i can remember there being at least 2 or 3 threads about clowns and otyher trigs doing this

Try gently rubbing a piece of defrosted clam or shrimp on a sheet of nori without tearing it. Perhaps when he eats the nori, he will be re-introduced to the taste of meat. It may take a few times. Let me know if this works, AL24.

The shrimp and nori didnt work, he took on bite and gave up on it !!! I tried throwing in some rosey reds, he chased one and then lost interest. I have no idea what to do now ....

Keep in mind triggers do go on hunger strikes from time to time. keep trying a variety of meaty foods and give him the nori soaked in selcon. I wouldn't get overly concerned unless he starts loosing a lot of weight are doesn't take to meaty foods in the next month or two. Most likely he will come around soon.

throw a couple of goldfish in there. He'll rethink his ways really quick!

Ide suggest you research before posting something like that Feeding gold fish is VERY bad for any fish.

I do know that feeding goldfish, is very unhealthy, i just tossed one in to see if i could get a responnse from the fish. Afterwards, the fish came out of the tank. Nothing ate it ....
