clown trigger with oodinium

well my new clown I think has oodinium. all over a fine white dot. not the salt dots like ich. im droping the salinity. what else should i do???

the major problem is this 65g used to be a reef tank and now is just full of live sand and some texas holey rock. im afraid if i copper the tank i will kill the live worms and other stuff in the sand and cause the ammonia to go way up???

not sure what to do. I read a thread saying to use chloroquine phosphate...what is it and where do i get it???

I do have a uv light. but i understand it only controls ich.

HELP!!!

at this point i think its ick, the spots are like salt now. guess last night they were small at the beginning stage. little dots and fins not clear. So im going to get some garlic extreme and keep the uv on 24, 7. I did a 7m fresh water dip...didnt do a thing, unless thats what made the cysts big.

anybody got any idea if im going to have a ammonia prob using copper since i have live sand???

well i freshwater dipped with formaline 3 for 8 min, seems to have helped a lot for the time being. hope the uv light helps the rest.

Formalin will not cure crypt any time soon and I would not recommend it's use in a FW dip. Dips of any kind are pretty much useless when dealing with this parasite. The UV is also a hit and miss prospect, more miss than anything. It will only help in reducing the free swimming theronts in the water. Best case scenario is you end up with a balance between the fish's immune system and the parasites onslaught. You will not cure the problem.

Only in a seperate QT environment can you permanently be rid of the parasite. Copper, hyposalinity or the three day transfer method. The clown would respond best to the hypo though.

If using a refractometer (which is really a must) target 12-14 ppt. The salinity (not SG) can never be allowed to get as high as 16 ppt throughout the entire treatment.

If using a plastic hydrometer it can be iffy as to the success of this treatment. If you cannot get ahold of the refract, then target 1.009 SG on the hydrometer. Make sure you rinse it after each and every use in RO to improve the reading. Allow to air dry and then store in a ziplok bag. If it has not been cleaned in a while, soak in a 1:1 vinegar/RO solution for 1 hour first. Be sure you rinse very well in RO before use.

Pay special attention to pH and alkinity and buffer the RO before use to ensure you do not alter the QT's chemistry.
