Clown vs clam

So I recently had one of the many problems in clam keeping happen to me. My false percula clown got a little too friendly with my crocea clam. The clam closed on the fish's head, and by the time I noticed them the fish was dead. I am guessing the fish died instantly by the looks of things. This usually kills both the fish and the clam. So I freaked, I tried turning the clam upside down to see if it would release the fish. I gave it about 30 min and nothing changed. So I then came up with my bbq skewer idea. It looks gross and inhumane but it worked. Remember the fish was already dead.

I stuck the fork through the fish and proped them up so the clam was hanging by its own weight from the fish. Five minuites went by and the clam dropped free.

It has been 2 to 3 weeks now and here is the clam today

Remember to check the sticky's at the top of the clam forum to see much more useful info, and check them often as they get more and more info added all the time.

glad to hear the clam made it, they always say curiosity killed the cat but but in this case it was the clown who paid :(

great story and sweet looking crocea :)

Oh dear. My clowns host a crocea. They are VERY friendly with it, often playing in its mouth. This particular clam has been very tolerant. I hope nothing like this happens to them:( Darned silly clowns:/

my other false perc and my lawnmower blennie sleep in my large squamosa at nite. If they only new the danger.

Sorry for your loss. Innovative technique to dislodge the clown's corpse. In your opinion, would the clown (assuming it was still swimming) switch to an anenome if one were available?

I've heard of clowns choosing clams as hosts but the blennie?! My "algae bunny" (what my kids call it) loves little rock caves for sleeping, though none of my clams are large enough for it to swim into (yet!). Is your blennie's choice of sleeping quarters just a strange individual preference, or does this happen somewhat frequently?

I have never heard of them doing this before. I have nem's, the clown just preferrs the clam for some reason.

First of all, these are not my pics. I believe they came from fragglereef, not sure. Anyway, these were posted on another site and thought I would share them. The owner claims the female clown lives "in" the clam! Enjoy.
