Clown with a problem

I have a farm raised false percula. It is now 4 weeks, and he is now in the main tank. Yesterday I noticed some whitish on one side, just past his eyes? i don't know what it is.

could be a fungas, could you possibly take a picture........anyway to quartine him from any other fish in the tank.

This was a problem I know with Percula in the past, of getting a white body fungus, don't know if it still is with the capitive breed ones. You should do a search and see what comes up.

Also make sure it's not just a scratch. It can be hard to tell if it's an early infection or a bad scratch on the rock. Both can look like a bulging, opaque eye. Usually the infection will look more creamy-white, while the scratch will look more like frosted glass. The biggest key will be if it's getting better (scratch) or getting worse (infection).

No- it's not his eye- the area is between the white stripe just past his eye and the next white body stripe. His eyes are clear and fine- good appetite, etc.

That's more concerning. I would consider removing and treating him (even better if you can get some pics into the disease forum).

But, treat him for what, with what? I do also have this in the disease forum- with conflicting ideas. Take a look.

That's the problem. With pictures it may be easier to narrow down the possibilities.

Could you explain the spot in more detail? Is it raised? Fuzzy? Does it look like a pimple? Is the fish scratching?

There is a few possibilities here. Lymphocystis is a viral condition that causes white spots..many will look like cauliflour. no treatment, will clear up with pristine water cond and good diet

Bacterial infection- would be best to remove to a qt and treat with antibiotics

Fungal infections are rare. They are usually white, fuzzy even stringy and most often occur over a wound..this should also be treated.

It's not ick, it's not scratching, not cauliflower- when I look through the magnifying glass - it looks like I could just brush it off- it's something on the surface. This "looseness is up by the dorsal fin on both sides. he acts healthy.

When i look in the magnifying glass, I see more of this whaitish "film" for lack of better word. I want to put it back in QT if I can catch him. Do I give a fresh water bath first- do clowns tolerate this ok? If so, how long? What do I treat him with? I have some Melafix up in the cupboard, but it has an old expiration date on it.

I couldn't catch him- yesterday he looked like whatever was on him had fallen off. Today. I see a little of it. This is weird- he seems perfectly fine. Anyone else observe this???

From what you are explaning, it sounds like ich. Looks loose becuase it is a parasite that drops off, also it goes away, then comes back. Also the fish do act normal and heathly at first, but then when the parasite comes back, it will kill them.
Good Luck

Due to the time this has gone on- he'd be dead by now. I have a fish disease book- and what this was- doesn't match up with Brooknella or ick.
