\Clownfish/ 29 Gallon BioCube Tank

Clown, I have a 27 gallon cube that I have been running for about 5 months now. I have really enjoyed reading your progress and am inspired to try some corals now. I have a clean up crew, a coral beauty, 3 peppermint shrimp and a clown right now. I am thinking about getting a skimmer because my nitrates run a little high 5-20ppm and it seems to be working for you.

How many fish are you thinking about adding in the future? I am trying to figure out how many fish I can fit safely in my tank.

Thank you mchute85 :celeb2:

I am planning on adding:

1 Cleaner Shrimp
2 False Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Royal Gramma (recently saw how large they get in an aquarium)

these are the only ones Im sure i want, Im still looking for other smaller fish that pack a punch in color. I will probably add 4 or 5 max.

Hey clown, are you still running with the sump sponges? Or have you removed them?

Just curious as it seems without them in my cube, everything is really strating to take off, and parameters are running very consistent.

Also out of curiosity, where is your purigen, and carbon located? I could never get the little bag of purigen to sit in the pocket between the second and third chamber. What I was doing was sticking the purigen under the divider, placing the carbon on top, and a rock on top to hold it all down(wanted to force out the carbon when the pump was on).

just curious as how others are running their cubes.

A lot of us have media racks Homer. Saves the trouble of knowing where to put the media, ensures water movement over them, and more importantly doesnt require reching into the bottom of the tank to change things out.

Definitely see the benefit of the media rack(have one in my cube now). Was just curious as to how clown was running his tank.

I have removed the large sump sponges and cut one in half. I use this in the second chamber to keep all my media bags down in the water which are in the second chamber. The sponge barely touches the water and have noticed that my nitrates are finally zero! Yay!

Today for my birthday I purchased a clownfish which I'm really excited about. I wish I would have bought another but they only had one. He or she is in QT and will be watching for illnesses and behavior.

Thank you :celeb2:

Here is the tank today.

Here is my rainbow torch and I think the other is a dragon soul but not sure yet. looks better in person.

So here is the best pic I could get of him or her. It is about 2 1/2 inches long and nice and fat. QT is a 10 gallon tank and currently feeding omega small pellets with garlic.

Your clown needs an anemone!

I thought about it getting one when my tank turned six months but I dont wanna risk it, besides most tank raised clowns don't host anemones. I actually like the torch corals and if they die, they won't kill everything in the tank. Clownfish also don't need anemones to live or be happy, they just provide protection.

Every tank raised clown I have ever had has been hosted by an anemone. The problem is most people by an occ clown and a BTA and get mad when the clown won't go near it (however I have had occ clowns that loved BTAs). I would agree though it would be better to wait until your tank is at least a year old.

nice looking tank and nice clown! clowns will host anything they like. my clowns are hosting frogspawns even though there's a bta in the tank.

Clown,

Are you running the stock lighting on your tank? You corals seem to be doing great! My next step is to get corals.

Looking good clown!!

Happy belated b-day!!

Just got myself a small green hammer frag that has 2 small branches. Can't wait for it to grow up.

My wife really wants a flame angel(even though I've explained to her that they nip at corals, some nip, some don't. 50/50 crap shoot from what I've read). Thinking about getting a real small one if I can find it, and see what happens.

Thank you for the birthday wishes everyone :)

I've been looking to the flame angel or the coral beauty. I'll probably get this as my last fish (maybe) once I plan on going larger. I purchased a yellow frogspawn which should be there either tomorrow or Friday :)

Got the frogspawn today yay! Waiting for it to fully open. Today I noticed that my tank is now two months and two days old :celeb2:
