Clownfish and seahorses?

Has anyone ever had a clownfish with a seahorse? I have a 25g aquarium (24X12X16). I have 2 young occelaris clowns. Could I keep seahorse(s) with the clowns? If so, what kinds and how many?

I think the clowns would get all the food when you tried to feed the seahorses. My clowns that it away from the corals.:uzi:

Nice idea, but no you can not keep them together. Sea horses require frequent feedings, they would never be able to compet with a clownfish.

Agreed that feeding would be an issue. Also, clowns in general have a more 'hyper' demure, this could cause a stressful environment for the horses and could cause health issues, particularly in a somewhat smaller tank where the horses can't have an area of their own.

If I divided the tank would it be possible to keep dwarves? That way I could continue to use 1 skimmer, change water on 1 tank, etc.

i can be done, but your clowns will need to get used to 74*F or cooler water. also, i dunno if you're aware of it or not, but zots only eat live food, so you'll need to hatch BBS daily for them or culture pods. if you're gonna do all that, you might as well set up a SH tank.

i really recommend having a SH tank that's set up for SH from the get-go, and not trying to squeeze them into another tank. you'll have a much better experience with them, esp. if you're new to SH.

OK thanks, I think I'm going to hold off on SHs for now, I have no idea if I'll be able to care for them in a year, and my parents won't let me set up another tank :lolspin: they're not happy with 1 tank already
thanks for all the advice

i have a small clown fish with my seahorses and had no problems they all swim together

i doubt that will be the case once the damsel gets some size on it, but there are sometimes exceptions to clowns and their nasty dispositions. hopefully, yours will be one of them.

I think it really depends how tied to their home base the clowns are. In years gone by I've kept seahorses and clowns - the clowns didn't even seem to noticed the seahorses, except once when the seahorses wandered directly into their nest they were guarding; and then they acted more like a foreign object fell in their nest area, and tried to move it; not fight it off.

I have some clarkii with my erectus right now. Its more of a temporary arrangement (space issues). Food isn't a problem right now, the clowns stuff themselves on a few pieces of mysis and the seahorses eat the rest. I've seen the clowns over eat, spit a piece of mysis out, and the seahorses snap it up right away.

Long term; I know that arrangment won't work, clarkii are too aggressive. However, ocellaris are probably fine of everyone is adequately fed. I would suspect skunk clowns to also be okay due to their timid nature.

Yes to seahorses and clownfish

Yes to seahorses and clownfish

I have clownfish with my seahorses. They don't bother the seahorses at all. You do have to make sure that the clowns are fed first and satisfied. Then I will put the shrimp in near my seahorses and they eat it up.
