Clownfish Body Fungus?

Ok so I posted a few days ago and still haven't figured this one out. Im thinking it's body fungus but due to the location It may be Mycobacteriosis which is untreatable. Want to at least get it ID'd and try to save this great fish. Had it in my QT with a Lamark since Sunday. Paramaters are norm. Bringing the temp up a little to 81.4 and the salinity I've been bringing down to hypo slowly. As I do with all new fish to bring out and kill off any ick seems so common. Battled in my DT for a bit and am pretty good about keeping everything seperate now.

Not flukes as I thought might be possible from the last photo. It looks like it has grown as well? Is the fish exhibiting any other symptoms? Still eating?

I've seen something similar to this once before - on a percula clownfish. In that case, the lesion developed in the center of the caudal fin. It soon created a hole of missing fin tissue. The outside margin of the caudal fin (posterior to the hole) soon dropped off due to reduced blood flow. It happened so fast, that be the time my staff brought it to my attention, it was already too late to put a scrape of the "fungus" under the microscope, so I don't know what it was for sure. In this case, the fish recovered. I suspect that it was a bacterial infection (Pseudomonas perhaps).

That said, it is possible that the lesion on your fish is a particularily thick encrusation of Brookynella (I think there is a sticky about that disease at the top of either this forum or the clownfish forum). I have not had to deal with Brook for 25+ years, so I do not have any recent experience treating it.....

Ok So I am treating with Macaryn now and then plan to do a run of Macaryn 2 and a Formalin dipping regament if necessary. This is a lot of treatment though. Is it the correct route ?

Since you already began with the Maracyn, I guess you ought to finish with it, but I never recommend that for marine tanks - its just erythromycin, and that has little effect on the common disease bacteria, and can have a large effect on your nitrifiers (watch for an ammonia spike!). One good thing is that it will kill off all your cynaobacteria (blue-green algae). Martacyn II is a much better choice. The formalin may help if the probem is a parasite like Brookynella, but as I said, I can't really give advice on that.

Ok so continued with the Macaryn. The clown is still eating very well, hides all day behind my skimmer coming out once in a while. Last night I noticed that the skin around the dorsals first spine was gone leaving the spine visible, this morning the spine is gone but the lesion looks smaller.

My biggest question now is how to deal with having a seemingly heathy fish the Lamark and a sick fish in my QT at the same time. I think next time it will be one at a time in QT.

If this disease is untreatable I don't want my Lamark to come down with it.

Can I run Macaryn 2 simultaniously with the Macaryn?

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

That sure sounds like the issue I had with that clown, with the fin falling off and all. Sorry, I don't know if you can run Maracyn and Maracyn II at the same time. You used to be able to, but that was 25 years ago, and they may have changed the formulations since then(grin).

If your fish continues to follow the direction mine took, it may be a self-limiting problem. We never did treat ours.
