hi. I have two clownfish that I have had since they were only a few weeks old. They are now about a year old and one is signifigantly larger than the other. they hang out together and sleep next to each other and are i'm assuming a mated pair...unless the change of sex takes a longer time than one year. They are ocellarus clowns and I was wondering if they will breed or if it doesn't happen that easily. I know that if i have two females one will lay eggs but they will just never get fertilized and they'll just get eaten by the would be mother. and i know you need rotifers to feed the babies but i'm just wondering if it takes more time than a year and if there is anything else i could do. I don't have an anemone but i heard that one is not necessary.

It sounds like you have a male / female. It can take a year .. two.. sometimes never. There is nothing you can do but feed them well and keep their home stable. You don't need an anemone. I don't know if there has been any studies but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they are more likely to lay nests if there is an anemone just because of them feeling more secure. Who knows. I wouldn't rush out and buy one either.
i am not to sure on answers for these questions but i know my clows (true percs) just laid eggs about a week ago and i can now see them all with little eggs still stuck to the rock though
would it be possible that there are enough docs in the tank or would feeding live baby brine shrimp help some of them survive without any special care
