Clownfish Broodstock Setup

Sorry Travis its a bit to early in the morning for me. None of the fish in The System have begun to spawn prior to interduction. Though the Pink Skunks and 1 of the Ocellaris appeared close prior to the move. Now my Onyx male and True Perc female in the large system are spawing but I dont want to move them until I get a new pair of clowns for the 300. I still need to start-up some Phyto and Rotifer Cultures.

Heres the True Perc Pair which were moved from my 75 to the clown system.

And these guys will eventually be in there as well but since I just got them today they are currently in my 75 with an anemone.

One of my picasso's jumped to its death to, whats up with them jumping like that I didnt know that clowns normally did that.

neither did I until I lost a normal Ocellaris in my 46 and then a couple months later with the Picasso. Now all my tanks have covers on them because I get to bummed out when I find a dried piece of sushi on the floor.

Anyone have any suggestions on where I can locate some Snowflakes or some I think ORA sold some Jigsaw or Misbar GSM at one time?

Very nice setup. For those reading along or future reference. I used carriage bolts to support the shelves on my broodstock shelves to avoid screw sheer. Your broodstock look very nice also.

Thats amazing! I have a soft spot for clown fish so a setup like that would be a dream come true.

Since you have so many different breeds, which ones would you say show the most personality?

Almost all of them. They have such good manors that they are hand fed and are my pride and joy. If I had to do it over again (which Im thinking of actually doing) I would use 40 gallon Breeder tanks and divide them in half. I have a chance to get 40s at $1.00 a gallon from a LFS and would consider changing the tank setups after the first of the year.

Thats good to hear. Nice to know I am not missing out on anything with my clowns. I was originally going to get a different species for my 125G, but decided not too.

I like the 40G idea. Maybe if you switch to them you can use the current setup for a different type of fish. I always thought gobies would be interesting.

Just standard NO shop lights right now. After the first of the year I probably going to switch the system over to 40 gallon breeders and install VHOs on the system and have an anemone in each section. Whats the point of having clowns if they don't have a nice RBTA or GBTA to play in? I just recentally set-up a 150 that I got from a friend and plan on transfering all of my BTAs into it but have not decided whether to place a Picasso, Onyx or B&W pair in it with the anemones. Im in no rush and I guess since the fish are hand fed that if I decided I didn't like a certain pair in the 150 I could always swap them out for another.

I forgot to ask you have anymore pairs starting breeding in your Killer New System yet? Any new fish? I still think you have the best system that I have seen and would love to come check it out next time Im out on the coast.

One of my local LFS was selling some divided 75 gallon tanks for TWENTY dollars recently...It was all I could do to keep from picking a couple of them up to start up a broodstock system down the line.

I love this...I hope things go well for you!

Well at that price I probably would have pick some up. You can never have to many tanks. My life is sad, I have all these tanks and fish, even have a "Fish Room" and yet I still dont have room for all the tanks and fish I want. Im a sick, sick man, I really need to get some professional help. LOL!

I had a pair of black ocellaris start spawning. All the rest I'm waiting to mature. I want to increase the lighting on the system, I had a nice pair of onyx but the male has lost his coloration, so right now I'm experimenting to see if it will be worth it. If you're in California next year let me know.

Thanks Ron I usually go out there abount once a year to visit family in the Valley. I think lighting has alot to do with coloring. I think fish have the same ability that reptiles do of obsorbing vits from certain wave lengths of UV but have no proof just from my observations. I plan on upgrading to Full Spectrum lighting before the VHOs though and think Full Spectrum lighting enhances vibrant colors and long term health of animals. Just an idea.
