Hey guy

So while im still new to saltwater fish i have a few questions about the maroon clownfish

I am thinking about starting a new fish only tank (maybe with an anemone) and was wondering if it would be possible to keep a goldstripe maroon and eegular maroon togther without them killing each other

Also would anemones help woth the aggresion levels ( they would have there owns)

A maroon is a maroon. Doesn't matter color of stripes, but pairing them is always risky regardless due to their unfriendly disposition. I can't really comment much more than that, hopefully someone with more experience with maroons will chime in.

maroons are puppies compared to my darwins. hehe i have a 6" female and she is not overly aggressive and even laying.
you can mix them and if you get a pair make sure you get small juvi pair. or if you get one 2" or so, make sure the male is small as possible. one thing about maroons is that they are aggressive with nems. they love them to death and if the nem is small and the clowns are big, it will kill it accidentally. make sure you get a nem 2x or 3x the size of your maroon. with a juvi pair i would get a 6" nem or so. they

thanks guys,so it dosent matter the color of stripes? if this is true it would make it alot easier.

i would get probably get them off live aquaria, and i should get them as small as possibe right?

oh and the tank size would be 125 gallons, idk if it would help with aggresion but how easily would they except each other as mates?

I'm not sure about mating and size, but Whip is right. A maroon is a maroon, just like a percula is a percula (doesnt matter if its a true perc, misbar perc or picasso perc). Maroons can be VERY aggressive though, so they should be the last fish you add to the tank. Maroons also are on the bigger end of clowns, and from what I've heard, grow fast (and often outgrow their nems. We have a giant carpet nem for our maroon) If you want a fish only tank, I would stock it and add the maroons last. I was actually just told today, when I went for my maroon, to get my other fish today as well, or get the other one first. The other fish was a tang, about 5x as big as the clown, and (thankfully) was informed if the clown goes in first, she will have no problem bullying any other fish that comes in after her, regardless of size. Good luck! Maroons are one of my favorite type of clowns :inlove:

thanks alot! so i will be adding my maroons last and my least aggresive ones first

also how long have you had your anemone and how hard is it to take care of? (is it your avatar?)

Yes, my avatar is our nem :) We've had him about 6 months, and I think its pretty easy to take care of him. (I have more pics in my tank thread in reef discussion if you want to see) We feed probably about once a week, and since we have a lion as well, the nem sometimes gets whats left over! he just got a few pieces of scallop the other day lol. Its very fun to watch him eat too! We feed ours mysis shrimp and meaty chunks (like scallops).

your welcome and again hope your relly enjoying the hobby

hey also should i leave the thread like this or is there so way to delete it? ( still new here)

this has nothing to do with my responses just testing something

My maroon pair stay in the back of my tank on the other end and dont bother anyone they have a nem but there are 2 other pairs of clowns (clarks, and true percs both hosting nems about 4in apart in with them should i be worried cause everyone gets along.

welcome to the club jay
and i cant really help you on this topic but it sounds like u have nothing to worry about and that the maroons just want to live in the back of the tank

My maroons were put in the tank on the same day, I chose one that by size would be considered more of a teenager than a baby and the other was half his size. The bigger one is a yellow banded the other the juries is still out on.
They were both tank raised. My bigger one hosts a condy anemone (I know odd), the smaller one hosts a sebea anemone. They are in a 125 gallon tank with 3 green chromis, a mandarin, a flame angel, and a scopas tang. All inhabitants seem to do well together. I think when you put the clowns in you want a size difference so that hopefully your little one will submit right away, (mine did) it cuts down on the brutality off thier first meeting.
