Clownfish eating my Carpet Anemone????

I introduced a green Carpet in my tank tonight. My mated pair of Gold Stripe Maroons decided to take bites out of it. I have never heard of this????? I took the Anemone out in fear of the clowns killing it. Anyone seen or heard of this happening?

FWIW, the clowns are hosting a long tentacle anemone and a RBTA all ready. Would that cause aggression towards a new Anemone?????

Not unheard of, sometimes they will stop. Sometimes they won't.

Maroons have a bit of reputation for biting off tentacles, and even biting the column of anemones. Any guess as to why would still be just a guess.

Have you tried to place the anemone far from their usual haunts?

I will try that. But unfortunately their side of the tank is the best spot for this Carpet. I will try to introduce it into the opposite side of the tank and see if I can gradually get it over to their side.

Someone mentioned that they could be biting it to become immune the Anemone's sting???? Any truth to that?

I have a pair of onyx that take off tentacles from my gigantea. Doesn't seem to matter much to the anemone - they just grow back.

Inconclusive. There are plenty of theories :)

Cool, at least I am not the only one. I was thinking I may just have retarded clownfish. I couldn't imagine the anemone taste good, but who knows???
