Light enough that the fry can easily swim against the current. Use a very coarse airstone. I use to have a plastic adjustable one that worked great. No airstone at all works OK too.
I actually have very good air flow. After day 1 and they do well. To hatch in the tank, it really need good airflow for current.
Phil hatch his larve in the reef tank and catch them after they hatch. IMO, a bubble per second will not be enough current to hatch the eggs it you take the egg to hatch tank. My larve seem to do find with much higher flow rate. Usually no mortality after the first night. I usually have about 10-20% mortality the first night (night of the hatch). I don't know if I decrease the flow the mortality is less or not.
Here is a video of the aeration of my fry tank. The fry in this video is about 7 days old I think. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xhq9PhmKj8
Is this too much/to little air?
Also, is this too much/too little light? Its a single 3W led light from ikea. I removed the magnifying lens and added circular cutouts of a coffee filter in its place. I have 6 layers of filter circles stacked up. Its about the same as 2-3 paper towel layers.
