i am a novice in the reef tank hobby. i have noticed my pair of clownfish developing black spots throughout the length of their body. Would someone be able to tell me what this is? what's causing it? and how do i treat it?

your help is much appreciated

thanks!

Apart from the black spots the fish don't show any signs of stress or disease, do they? I had this same problem recently with new ocelllaris clowns I had purchased. It turned out to be stinging from LPS corals. They were trying to host in a torch coral and were being stung by it. Clowns go through this when trying to acclimate in an anemone of coral. Don't panic, it is a natural occurrence for them, and it will pass in a short time.

Actually, taking a closer look only, what apparently is, the male clown has the black spots. Haven't seen any obvious signs of stress, nor have i seen him trying to host new corals.

He could be trying to host in a coral at night when the lights are out which would explain why you don't see him. I still say that's your issue.
