So I want to breed some clownfish in the future. I have already planned out which ones I want to breed. My next step is to find out everything I can about breeding and raising them. So if anyone has any help, feel free to chime in here.

The best thing to do is start going through the threads on this forum of the people that are actively breeding clowns. Most of your question will be answered, then if you have questions that you couldn't find answers to ask then. The breeding techniques are too complex to just write is all down for you in this thread.:reading::reading::reading::thumbsup:

Before you worry about raising clownfish, focus on getting a pair that is breeding. Once they start they should continue to breed on about a 14 day cycle. Do not be to concerned if you cant raise the first batch of eggs.

Start researching now like sport said and learn what you can. But until your clowns start breeding, worrying about how to raise them isn't to much of a concern. My clowns have been paired for quite some time but do not breed yet.

Okay, so my first question is how old a clownfish has to be to breed. I am planning on breeding a black and white Ocellaris with a Snowflake. I intend on getting both of them at the same time, and getting them young as well. So is it an age thing or a size thing that determines when they are ready?

I have had my True Perculas for 5 years now, and after Thanksgiving of this past year they finally started to lay eggs. I was excited at first but the male would eat them all soon after they were laid. :( He follows my female clown around all the time like he is love struck, and guess he didnt know he was supposed to take care of them. Then it happened, the last batch he ate all but about 20 or so and he began to take care of them. They developed and I saw the little silver eyes like I had read about. I knew I wanted to try to raise them. So I started to culture greenwater and rotifers. My past clutch this past Thursday nite hatched, I caught about 50 or so and now I am down to 20ish in my fry tank. I am learning and enjoying the process.
So if your clowns are young be patient. If they are already spawing keep feeding them well. I provide a wide range of foods to include beefheart, frozen brine shrimp, frozen pe mysids, squid, tableshrimp, cyclopees, ova, marine flake, and pellet food. I have also seen them eat nori that I put in my tank for my tangs a couple of times a week.
Good luck with them! ~Jo
